Team boss praises TT Zero clean emissions event

MotoCzysz team boss Michael Czysz believes the new class for clean emissions motorcycles at the TT has the potential to be one of the ‘purestprototype classes.

MotoCzysz has confirmed it will return to the Isle of Man in 2010 to participate in the TT Zero Clean Emissions race. TT Zero will feature as part of the core race programme during the 2010 Isle of Man TT Races. Clean emission racing made its TT debut in 2009 with the TTXGP concept.

TT Zero, which is expected to feature riders who are also competing in the other TT classes, is a one-lap race open to clean emission motorcycles and will take place on Wednesday, Junie 9, following the second Supersport and second Sidecar races. There will also be qualifying sessions on June 5 en 7.

As with the core TT Races programme TT Zero will be run by ACU Events Ltd, using the latest FIM regulations. However TTXGP Ltd, which promoted the 2009 event, will not be involved and the Isle of Man Department of Tourism and Leisure will become the race promoter for the clean emissions race as well as the core TT Races programme.

in 2009, the MotoCzysz E1pc electric motorcycle generated a huge amount of interest and was widely accepted as having a similar level of integration as a traditional race bike.

The story of the team’s 2009 Isle of Man campaign is heavily featured in the documentary Charge, shot by director Mark Neale, which will be on general release worldwide in cinemas this summer.

The US team, based in Portland, Oregon, is famous for developing an innovative, clean sheet motorcycle, the C1 990. The team was scheduled to compete with the conventional race bike in the MotoGP championship until a change of regulation meant that the machine was no longer eligible.

The team’s 2010 electric machine is already believed to have received significant improvements on the 2009 fiets, and it has been confirmed the team will debut the new MotoCzysz proprietary electric motor controller drive system, expected to be the highest torque/density electric motor in the industry.

MotoCzysz is expected to be one of the leading contenders to claim the £10,000 prize the Isle of Man Government has offered to the first team to record a 100mph average time for a lap of the 37 3/4 mile course by an electric motorcycle.

MotoCzysz founder and CEO Mr Czysz said:

“We are very excited to be returning to the Isle of Man to compete in the 2010 TT Zero. The fact that electric motorcycle racing has been elevated to an official class within the TT shows the commitment of the Isle of Man Government in providing the low emission pioneers with a world stage to demonstrate their solutions.”

“This may end up being one of the purest prototype classes left in racing.”

Isle of Man Tourism and Leisure Minister Martyn Quayle added:

“We are delighted to have a team of the credibility and prestige of MotoCzysz confirming their participation. They are one of the true pioneers of motorcycle racing and I’m sure will arrive on the Island as a very competitive team.”
