Making his name in European events Agostini made two Championship appearances for the Morini in 1964 in the 250cc class and was by MV Agusta for a full time the following year, as understudy to Hailwood on 350cc and 500cc

He enjoyed race wins in classes during that season with MV Agusta and was in both categories, but it would not be before he became a World for the first time — as he the 500cc crown in the last of 1966. History repeated in 1967 as Agostini was second in the championship and the 500cc title-winner at the last round of the season.

Moving to for the 1974 season, Agostini won the 200 event early that beating the likes of Kenny Snr . for his first taste of glory on machinery – a triumph he backed up for the Far manufacturers with the 1974 crown and his final World in 1975 on 500cc machinery.

The brilliant Italian undertook his season in 1977, having Grand Prix victories in the 350cc and 500cc classes the year — his last race win coming at Germany’s in 1976.
