Intro

By the time the 2005 Aprilia RST 1000 arrived, its manufacturer, Italian company Aprilia, had become a subsidiary of Piaggio in 2004 after recent financial troubles. In the same year that Piaggio acquired the company, Aprilia halted production of the RST 1000. Thus, the 2005 RST 1000, the fifth model year of the nameplate, was the last of its kind.

The 2005 Aprilia RST 1000, sometimes referred to with its suffix Futura, is powered by a four-stroke liquid-cooled V-twin (two-cylinder) engine that displaces at 997.6 cubic centimeters (thus the 1000 designation). It has a bore and stroke of 3.82 x 2.66 inches (97 x 67.5 millimeters) and an 11.4-to-1 compression ratio. Perched on each of the engine’s two cylinders are four intake valves.

Fueled by a 51-millimeter fuel injector, the engine on the Aprilia RST 1000 is linked with a six-speed manual transmission. An electric starter is in place to ignite the engine. For storing fuel, each 2005 Aprilia RST 1000 has a gas tank of 5.6 gallons (21 liters), with a 1.3-gallon (5-liter) reserve.

The 2005 Aprilia RST 1000 relies on a pair of Brembo® disc brakes for its stopping power. An 11.8-inch (300-mm) dual disc is placed at the front, while a 10-inch (255-mm) single one is located at the back. Its suspension consists of a 1.7-inch (43-mm) Showa® telescopic fork and a rear shock absorber with a twin-sided aluminum swing arm from Sachs Boge.

Available as a red or silver bike, the 2005 Aprilia RST 1000 uses an aluminum frame to reduce weight while retaining firmness. Its digital dashboard is loaded with a clock, tachometer, trip odometer, speedometer, service reminder indicator, and temperature and fuel level warning gauge. Under-seat and lockable compartments and a pair of side cases provide the bike’s storage capacity.

Also included on the 2005 RST 1000 are a tinted windshield, halogen headlight, and side mirrors.

Each 2005 Aprilia RST 1000 has a length of 85.4 inches (2,170.2 mm), width of 29.2 inches (740 mm), height of 48.9 inches (1,240 mm), and wheelbase of 56.5 inches (1,435 mm). The ground clearance and seat height for the bike are measured at 4.7 inches (120 mm) and 32.3 inches (820 mm), respectively. When dry, the 2005 RST 1000 weighs 463 lbs. (210 kilograms); its wet weight is 518 lbs. (235 kg).

Its payload, or carrying capacity, is estimated at 401.2 lbs. (182 kg).

With the 2005 Aprilia RST 1000, the bike as a new-sale item ceased to exist. However, with its better-than-average ergonomics, it did not go out without a gallant fight for consumer attention. The 2005 Aprilia RST 1000 appeals to those who prefer a mix between casual riding and sporty orientation.
