Town, touring, and off-road, the Caponord rider can tackle it all. The Caponord boasts a sports engine in the form of Aprilia’s prestigious high performance 1000 cc V twin that has shown its mettle so well on Aprilia’s other maxi bikes.

The Caponord guarantees tremendous riding satisfaction, and this can be shared in full with the passenger even when the bike is loaded with the dedicated top box, panniers and tank bag. The ETV 1000 Caponord lets you forge ahead under all conditions, thanks to excellent aerodynamic protection and the peace of mind that comes from knowing that nothing can stop you, even when the road ends.

Concept;

The intention behind the CAPONORD was to design a bike capable of delivering pace-setting performance and power in conjunction with sensational handling and top level riding comfort and safety.

Design;

The styling of the ETV 1000 Caponord is the perfect mix between functionality and design: the bottom of the instrument panel covers the fuse box and the spoiler under the headlight, and the design of the silencer includes the anodised aluminium guards have been fitted to reduce weight.

Frame;

The Aprilia ETV 1000 Caponord is the first trail bike in the world to be fitted with a variable geometry aluminium perimeter frame (Aprilia’s legendary Double Wave Aluminium Beam frame). The DWAB frame is manufactured from extruded box section aluminium alloy profiles welded to aluminium-magnesium castings. The frame boasts the highest torsional rigidity in its class.

The rear swingarm is also in aluminium-magnesium alloy and features a cold cast central section, extruded arms and forged terminals.

Suspension;

The ETV 1000 Caponord’s suspension system is similar to that used on big racing enduros, but has been thoroughly calibrated for maximum comfort at all times and under all conditions, from motorways to dirt tracks. – 50 mm Marzocchi fork with extended wheel travel (175 mm). The fork’s hydraulic damping has been improved and a variable action spring fitted. The new spring becomes firmer when the fork enters the second half of its compression stroke.

End of stroke load is also up by 16%.

– SACHS rear monoshock with adjustable rebound and spring preload, with APS (Aprilia Progressive System) rising rate suspension linkages. The rear monoshock can be adjusted by a conveniently located knob to match suspension action to all possible conditions from full load touring to off-road solo riding.

Brakes;

The ETV 1000 Caponord is equipped with Brembo brakes and Freudenberg brake lines (technically equivalent to metal braided lines). The front brake uses two. 300 mm floating stainless steel disks and floating callipers with two differential diameter pistons (32 and 30 mm).

This configuration optimises feel and response, and absorbs the flexure generated during off-road riding better than alternative systems. The rear brake features a 272 mm stainless steel disk and a calliper with two 34 mm opposed pistons.

ABS has improved the Caponord’s already impressive active safety. The system is designed so that it can be manually disabled from a button on the instrument panel. A function indicator notifies the rider when the system is triggered.

The system has been designed in conjunction with Brembo, and incorporates a Bosch ABS 5M control unit with double phonic wheel sensors. The Caponord’s ABS system uses BH DOT hydraulic hoses in flexible metal braid with PTFE inner tubing. These top quality hoses minimise the pressure loss normally caused by brake line expansion and keeps brake performance constant at all times.

Wheels;

The ETV 1000 Caponord is equipped with Aprilia’s exclusive patented ‘Tubeless Spokes Rim’ wheels. These excellent wheels are fitted with tubeless tyres and bring tremendous benefits in terms of active safety. They are exceptionally light wheels, with cold cast hollow rims and hubs to keep weight low and structural rigidity high.

Special spoke design and large diameter wheel spindles (25 mm at the front and 20 mm at the rear) give these wheels extremely high flexural rigidity, fundamental for stability in high speed cornering.

Engine;

The Caponord’s 60� V twin is another of its many strong points. The engine is derived from the unit that powers the racing RSV, but has been thoroughly modified for touring.

In this version the Aprilia V twin demonstrates all its versatility. Powerful and aggressive on the RSV, on the Caponord this engine is extremely fluid and flexible, with smooth power delivery right through an exceptionally flat torque curve.

– Longitudinal 60� V twin engine (a particularly short, compact design), with four valves per cylinder and double overhead cam with mixed chain and gear drive.

– Sagem electronic fuel injection. The injection control unit is connected to a sensor that reads crankshaft position every 10� of rotation, giving far more accurate control over injection parameters and smoother running, particularly at low engine speeds. Idling speed is automatically controlled by a feedback system, so a choke lever is no longer required.

– CDI electronic ignition and TSI (Twin Spark Ignition), with two spark plugs per cylinder. Ignition timing is controlled by the integrated engine management system that also controls fuel injection. This unit is completely different from that fitted to the RSV 1000.

– Dry sump lubrication system. Dry sump lubrication allows crankcases to be far more rigid and compact than on wet sump engines and totally eliminates the risk of insufficient engine lubrication under hard acceleration and fierce braking or in the event of falls or wheelies.

– Different injection mapping for each cylinder to optimise combustion. The engine management unit recognises twistgrip opening and closing movements and uses the DIAC system (Dynamic Ignition Advance Control) to adapt injection and ignition parameters and maintain exceptionally smooth power delivery.

Exhaust System;

The exhaust system is made entirely from stainless steel and incorporates a three way, double lambda probe catalyser with oxygen control. The system conforms to Euro 2 emission control standards. The exhaust is also equipped with aluminium heat shields, for reduced weight and even more striking appearance.

The positioning and volume of the silencers are the results of in-depth aerodynamic research and on-road testing.

The Caponord also features the following exclusive Aprilia patents:

AVDC (Anti-Vibration Double Countershaft);

PPC (Pneumatic Power Clutch), the power-assisted hydraulic clutch system that combats rear wheel bounce.

The Aprilia ETV 1000 Caponord delivers 98 HP (72 kW) at the crank at 8,250 revs (ECE correction) with a maximum torque of 9.88 kgm (97 Nm) at 6,250 rpm.

Riding Position;

Rider and passenger ergonomics plus aerodynamic protection topped the Caponord’s list of design objectives. As a result the Caponord lets you tackle even the most demanding rides without fatigue. The riding position is perfect for riders of all statures and ensures exceptional comfort and control.

The hand guards provide protection against the cold and rain as well as impact by branches and stones.

The reduced seat height (820 mm) ensures that riders of all statures can get their feet firmly on the ground.

Aerodynamic protection is perfect at all speeds, thanks to a generous cockpit fairing and a frame and tank specially shaped to shield the rider’s knees and legs, making long journeys possible in total comfort. The bike’s aerodynamics have been studied at length in the wind tunnels of the University of Perugia in Italy. As a result, the aerodynamic coefficient (CX) with the rider sitting upright actually improves compared to the bike alone or with the rider prone behind the fairing.

Compoetnts;

Special attention has been paid to all components on the Aprilia ETV 1000 CAPONORD.

– The instrument panel holds two analog instruments and a clear and easy to read multi-functional digital display. This shows time, ambient temperature, coolant temperature, and fuel remaining. The panel also displays the word service whenever scheduled maintenance is due.

A service code, accompanied by a dedicated warning light, identifies any injection system malfunctions. The large analog instruments have 3 levels of backlighting for perfect visibility under all conditions.

– Free form multi-focal headlight with complex parabolic reflectors. The beams are independently adjustable vertically and horizontally. A screw adjuster regulates vertical alignment while horizontal alignment is adjusted by a knob inside the fairing).

– Detachable, high strength steel seat mount frame.

– The passenger seat can be removed when not in use to create a generous load carrying surface. The under-seat storage compartment can still be locked even without the passenger seat thanks to a special cover mechanism.

– Practical 12 volt power socket for interphone, accessories, etc..

– Specially modified side stand permitting greater angles of lean when cornering
