Guide Review 2008 Aprilia RXV 5.5 Street Dirtbike

Dirtbikes used to be that— motorcycles dedicated to offroad surfaces. But the popularity of bikes has put pressure on dirtbikes to get legal, and Aprilia’s $9,299 RXV 5.5 is now for road use.

But don’t worry about the RXV 5.5 losing its enduro roots. it’s now EPA and CARB-approved (and with turn signals and the DOT-required accoutrement), the RXV is still a through and through. Its fuel liquid-cooled, titanium valved v-twin is stout, its 45mm fork and rear hydraulic offer loads of travel, and the package weighs in at only 262 dry.

This lightweight bike’s tires and floaty suspension are to manage on the road, but a dream in the Throttle response is crisp to a fault, and the power curve is all the way from the chattering low end of the rpms to It takes serious discipline not to slide the rear end in the dirt at low but when you’ve gathered velocity and need that bit of power to get you up a hill or out of a rut, the RXV delivers.

Equally unflappable is the suspension, offers enough cushion for surface irregularities and jumps. the RXV 5.5 is as intensely focused as its powerful the narrow seat is a stratospheric inches tall, and the rider’s position puts the onus on as the rear brake and the 5-speed is a foot’s twitch away.

Overall, the Aprilia RXV 5.5 is a tremendously offroad bike, and no doubt a for most riders. But for those who can its brawny engine and light it will be hard to go back to dirtbikes.
