If you’re used to a typical motorcycle, jumping on a might take a little bit of used to. For starters, forget kickstands; the SportCity, as with all scooters, parks with a Not having a kickstand option can hill parking a challenge, you can’t lean a scooter and advantage of gravity; it’s to make sure your is stable and not easily tipped on hills.

Once you push off and the springs up into the body, the feels light and maneuverable. A button start kicks the to life instantly, and simple throttle and brakes— are all you have to about while riding. to read instrumentation includes key like speed (via an dial) and fuel level and temperature (via LCD graphs.) A digital clock is centrally

The SportCity’s floorboard is grippy but as is its overall stance ; in fact, the scooter is a bit narrow, and if you’re to wrapping your legs a motorcycle, you’ll have to the urge to let your knees outwards, which can expose you to cars.

Its plastic body are nicely finished in metallic and though it lacks the … styling of Vespa’s scooters, the 250’s silhouette is purposeful and with just enough edges to give it a modern

Riding the 2008 Aprilia 250

The SportCity’s scaled down might take some used to. I’m 5’11, and jaunts around town comfortable and fun, longer on the freeway invited some The riding posture— at least for my requires a bit of knee-bending even my posterior is scooted (pun all the way at the rear edge of the front of the two-passenger seat.

Two-up forces the issue a bit more, but passenger footpegs fold into the body when not in

Twist the throttle, and the single-cylinder winds up a bit and propels you forward at a pace. Once the engine higher, acceleration becomes enough to allow merging traffic; once again, important to know the limitations of the and remember you’re on a scooter, not a even though the SportCity 250 is legal.

The ride quality is a bit and while the suspension (which a front telescopic setup) up surface irregularities, you’ll feel bigger grooves and quite strongly. There’s an reality that limited travel means bottoming out big bumps, but on the plus side the 15 inch wheels offer stability at higher speeds.

work well and take a bit of effort to lockup, and the SportCity is fun to and easy to maneuver through exactly what you’d from an eco-friendly scooter.

A week spent riding SportCity offered breezy free from the worry of clothes or contact with mechanical parts, thanks to its design. The fuel indicator dipped below the full and freeway legality made it practical to live with smaller scooters. Wind is decent at speed, though might opt for the tall (but looking) windscreen.

As my week the SportCity approached its end the little guy more endearing, though one prevented a higher rating: before it was due to be returned, the scooter over and ran fine until it was off the centerstand, at which point it off immediately. This pattern itself a dozen or so times, and a call to Aprilia, a handler out and hauled it away on a flatbed

The issue was later diagnosed as a spark plug wire, became completely disconnected the suspension loaded up (since the is hard mounted to the frame.) It out that tension in the plug stretched the gap between the wire and forcing the engine to quit the bike was pushed off the center

The bike reportedly ran perfectly after the wire was re-installed, and from that problem the behaved well enough to be recommended. Though the mechanical bumps it down to a 2.5 star keep in mind that is a time-tested brand with a track record, and hopefully got a bright future ahead of in the budding American market.
