…And the next blog entry would be where you follow up with a review of a ’76 Hondamatic CB750A. You know, like one of those ‘Then and Now’ technology comparisons.

I’m curious as to why it seems that all the ‘automatic’ motorcycle offerings are made in a displacement too large for beginners. It would seem to me that tapping the newbie market with something in the 200-650cc range would make more sense, and they would sell more. The only drawback I can see is that they would cost more, meaning a new rider would have to shell out even more for a new bike.

I actually think it’s cool that the Mana’s not underpowered, though it is much tamer than it looks… hence my “sheep in wolf’s clothing” reference in the review. I think it’s for those who want to blend in with the bad boys (the Triumph Street Triples – Ducati Monsters of the world) without shifting gears.

Hi Dan,

I dropped a line to Aprilia about ABS and haven’t heard back yet… I’ll let you know.

OK, thanks for checking with Aprilia on the ABS — I’ve searched all over and can’t figure out if and when they’re bringing it to the US.

Please keep up the great work on this excellent blog! I heard recently that About.com was doing some cut-backs, and I’ve got my fingers crossed you won’t be affected. I’m still smarting from having Susan Carpenter’s regular motorcycle column cut from my home town paper (LA Times).

According to Aprilia, “ABS is not available on the Mana for 2009 and currently there are no plans to make it available in the USA.”

Glad you enjoy the blog– I certainly enjoy writing it! I also live in LA was disappointed that the LA Times dropped Susan’s motorcycle column. It’s a tough time in the industry right now, but I’m optimistic about the future.

Ride safe,

OK, thanks for the info. That’s too bad about Aprilia not bringing the Mana ABS to the US … I guess my money will go to Suzuki (V-Strom or SV650 ABS) or BMW (F800 or 650 ABS). Are there any other bikes you know of along these lines (middleweight/upright/ABS)?

I love the auto Drive feature, once I’m out of traffic I can put it in sport mode and own the road!
