Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 Test

The idea of a street with dirt bike has always been appealing to me, that I grew up riding bikes and now love the pavement, The 2013 Aprilia Dorsoduro takes the idea of a supermoto and cranks it up to a “maximoto” level.

a ride-by-wire 1197cc V-twin with a short-… configuration piston is 106mm in diameter), the 1200 is an intense ride if you put it in the (S) mode, which is one of three mapping choices you are offered.

At power, the big twin cranks out 130 at 8700 rpm, along lots of muscle – 85 ft/lbs at rpm.

This makes the Dorsoduro an interesting alternative to the Tuono V4 hyperbike.

Even though the 2013 Dorsoduro 1200 doesn’t put out V4 for the dirt-bike style chassis, the V2 is really too much, and that’s the appeal. Even though I very aggressively, I prefer the (T) mode for going fast.

It me all the power with a usable

The horses and pull are still but the speed at which the motor up is slowed. That means wheelspin, fewer wheelies, and forward progress. Touring sound boring, but it’s an ride.

In the Sport (S) mode, the motor is ridiculously harsh and the bike for me.

The throttle response is simply the top–even Aprilia describes is as and they aren’t kidding.

the throttle in Sport and the bike forward, right at (and beyond) the edge of control. I tested the Dorsoduro 1200 on the (and a private road), and I like it there.

Had I had the opportunity to he D12 on a road racing course too heavy–around 450 pounds–for a proper track), I may have been to take advantage of the brutal deliver in Sport. On the street–no Really, Sport should be R for Racing mode, and the Touring is better described as S for Sport or

The Rain (R) mode the maximum horsepower to “only” 100 and that’s still plenty in conditions. In fact, on the tightest of it’s an advantage–you can be more on the throttle, which often in going faster.

Regardless, the Aprilia Dorsoduro is absolutely fast. It will do 134 in fifth gear (with one to go), and the windblast is your enemy on this … with wide bars. it up in sixth on the track and you can do 150, if you can in and hold on.

The handling is what you expect from a big twin-cylinder bike. It’s rather for side-to- side flickabilty, and the front forks–they’re out at 27.3 understeer an issue, though to back into turns. of entering turns, I’d really a slipper clutch for to reduce and settle down the rear end heavy braking.

This is true with the D12’s gearing, which requires to 1st gear for the tightest turns.

The Brembo brakes are flawless. mounted calipers up front twin 320mm discs), are very strong, with a progressive feel. I didn’t in the rain, but in the dry, I didn’t ABS at all.

After you are done the bike down and it’s to exit the corner, if you’re in the mode, the Dorsoduro 1200 to straighten up rather than a line. You can wrestle it around, or it down to Touring or Rain and your arms a break.

The suspension on the 2013 Aprilia 1200 is fantastic for urban The 43mm inverted forks are and fully adjustable. The rear is also fully adjustable and fantastic manners.

These are stiff enough for performance but enough travel to pop off curbs, down the front end from a or whatever you can think of doing on a bike.

A very fun side use of the 2013 1200 is a commuter bike. sitting up high, giving you a view of traffic, and you can adjust the delivery to suit conditions (it can be on the fly–just let the revs drop unintuitively, hit the start button). The problem is that the power and position puts you in a pretty mode for dealing with traffic.

The Aprilia Dorsoduro is an amazing bike. It looks with its alloy trellis angular plastic, alloy (an upgrade from earlier and, of course, the way you ride it.

A of bike, the 2013 Aprilia 1200 is pure excitement. If up to it, the Sport mode is mind-boggling.

For the rest of us, we’ll just go fast and have lots of fun on the and Rain modes. This is one fun
