Aprilia NA 850 Mana Automatic

joins the companies bringing out motorcycles with automatic You can expect to see this growing in many segments, especially if early entrants see much I would be very surprised if all of the didn’t have an automatic or two in their lineup before

This Aprilia not has a “manumatic” transmission, it also its fuel underneath the seat, leaves enough room in the fuel tank location for a compartment large enough to fit a face helmet. Add to that very obvious luggage points and what appears to be a cushy seat, and I’d say it’s much an ideal commuter

This engine and transmission, by the is also found in a Piaggio I like the Mana, but I’m unfamiliar Piaggio maintenance and reliability. I’m a “wait and see” attitude this new technology.

Though has a very positive history of and reliability (stemming all the way back to the Vespas) we are unlikely to see this available here in the US. The variator is a good one if you don’t like to but it’s not so great in stop and go With a manual transmission you can along in gear and adjust the to adjust your speed.

With a variator like bike will have it not engage unless you rev the engine than seems neccessary. braking works fine the clutch disengages unexpectantly and you coasting into someone’s Ideally a rider does not to creep along with risking being rear-ended but can lanes continuosly moving traffic.

Try commuting a little a scooter to see how much you like the I’ve stated above considering an automatic for a commuter.

As for the 850 engine and drive being in a Piaggio scooter (probably a I’m not familiar with it. The largest I’ve seen is Suzuki’s 650 Is the 850 available in the US?

Hey I already a commuter with an automatic. Its Of course its a 1978 model, not new whizz-bang CVT, but a gin-you-wine It is a bit lacking in engine-braking, but it is remarkably

No, no clutch, but a parking brake is I’d like a bit of storage, but it has the same my Yamaha Riva did (which is to NONE). It does go a bit faster the 1988 Riva 200-Z.

Has better brakes (disc/drum vs two on the Riva), and a better suspension, the engine is not mounted on the swing arm on the seems like not so much from 1978 to 1988. not so much from 1978 to

Re: someone please contact me the speed of htis bike and I can GET ONE?”

The 850 Mana is reportedly fast off the start… ask your Aprilia dealer for availability and dates.

I have an automatic as a and it is great as well. It’s not the way to go, but to me, it’s the best way. I LOVE this new Aprilia I like the 750 Shiver too.

I they become availiable in the

I will buy both of them-Mana The dealer in Texas didn’t if they are planning to sell over here, but he did say the more we the better chance we have. We look for them in just everything we purchase, so why not motorcycles.

leave this earth before a good motorcycle will. Lets ride!

the NA 850 Mana be available at Aprilia in the United States? Or, will it be for sale in Europe? Does know who to contact at Aprilia in to encourage them to make it in the US?

I already have a Honda Wing 600 scooter. I don’t any problems in traffic with the drive as one post earlier It’s much easier having to shift and your doesn’t get tired from to use a clutch as on a regular motorcycle.

I’d BUY bike and get rid of my scooter if was availabe in the I get too much crap from about my “scooter” and I really that the Mano looks a real motorcycle.

I commute there isn’t ice or snow on the My burgman 650 and I have no problems in the stop and go traffic. There is no with automatic CVT transmissions.

things look way cool I’d buy one of in a heartbeat.

With an atificial knee and nerve damaged foot a CVT motorcycle will my cup of I’m tired of upshifting with my heel, too many missed in heavy traffic. My local dealer has no clue as to the availability for bike. I agree with the guy, you will take a lot of on a scooter. I have visited my Suzuki dealer and suggested should put the Burgman drivetrain in a frame.

They just smile and say why we? We sell all the Burgmans they Let it be known the first CVT bike to hit the USA will be a trendsetter for others to There is a huge market of handicapped and wrist weary who would love to commute on a like this.

By the way – all you U.S. may be interested in this, although I you may know about the company Ridley Motorcycles (It seems the filter on this site allow URLs, but if you put that into google, it should them.) (The ‘Auto Sport’ is a particular object of long-term! )

Unfortunately for us Europeans, it there are no dealers for Ridley on side of the Atlantic. As it is, I’ve recently started riding and so am limited (in Britain) to a 125, so I’m a Piaggio X9. I have a paralysed foot and so can’t operate a lever sufficiently well to safe.

Another possible option is the system for normal bikes over here (Britain) bu (Again, a google search find them easily.) do custom fittings of their gearchanger and I assume there be an equivalent company in the States, too. I couldn’t afford to in such a system recently, but I look at it in the long term, if I can afford a Mana or a Ridley.

I this helps.

My dealer hear also tell me when or if this will be available. I currently a Ridley Classic and it is awesome. Mana would be a great to the garage.

CVT is definately the way to go.

I currently own a 650, which I love. been intrigued by the Mana 850 I first heard about it this year. I can’t to find anything about weight or expected gas mileage.

Nor any U.S. dealer seem to whether or not they’re going to be any in stock (last I heard was spring 2008??). American are overall more concerned image than practicality and it most dealers are afraid it sell well here. My is whether with only a 15 gas tank this bike is to have any useful range.

Slight update:

According to my friend’ this week’s News (MCN) paper has a full review of the Mana. saving his copy for me after finished with it.

At the moment the isn’t on their website and due to the spam filter on this I can’t post the URL to the articles *have* got there. However, if you [ motorcyclenews +mana ] you should the links to their articles, accompanying videos.

Now that is a of beauty. But I can’t help but if it’s out of my price range! It’s about time motors got a full on chance.
