First impressions of the Aprilia 1200

When I found out the was coming in a 1200 I had an idea it could finally supersede my XB12X, a bike I have  loved and ridden daily for the 4 years.

The Buell XB12x as the Ulysses, a terrible name) is a bike but something new had to be on the horizon and is not exactly a massive rangevin the for large super motard bikes. There is the Ducati 1100. there is a the KTM Super 990R (more a … the KTM 990 Supermoto and until now not really else. They are all great in their own rights but for one reason or haven’t grabbed me.

I like big bikes that feel dirt bikes, is that a I like sitting up straight, I big wide bars, I like up and into the tank scooched up the seat, and I like POWER.

I necessarily want SPEED, a Hyabusa doing 300+kms the freeway, because I just want to do that really, so the had been far and few between until have stepped into the with the new 1200 Dorsoduro .

Based on the fun but underpowered 750 by the same when I first read this bike it wasn’t to be brought into Australia, so A1 motorcycles rang me and said finally had one, and a demo to ride, well let’s say I couldn’t get there quick

First impressions were The bike sits up straight has a high seat position is perfect for me at 6’2″ and all arms and It certainly looks tough in my aggressive and just like a big dirt bike with wheels and bits of fairing make it look menacing but enough.

Great looking dash which once the is turned on does the Logo while it sets itself up has a really wide range of available on quick glance. A light, gear indicator, gauges, digital speedo and all the hazard and indicator lights expect from a road streetfighter.Very minimal screen covering the headlight but hey, I a Ulysses, i’m used to ….

Once on I immediately felt the bike feels light has an steering full lock of the so you could potentially full it up in the dirt, not that I’ll be there this time. The bug bear was the location of the Aprilia system, a left and right that gives you further to menu’s and advanced settings on the dash like Lap Timers and no time to play with … right now, I go fast.

All good, locked in and I am Into shitty traffic. I got the of the lights and they changed so I it a gentle twist out of first second and I was blasting down the doing 80kms at 4500RPM in seconds, the front wheel to come up and I had to tap the back break and the throttle before I knew was happening.

The friggen tthing is way than I imagined.

Being to fairly serious torque the Buell and my love of big V Twins I expecting that big four and face shredding speed. And the I was on had a 6RPM rev limiter on it and not even on the clock. I was in heaven.

And shaken just a little

I did it again from the lights and time just gave massive twists of throttle and shifts through to fourth and by the I could make out what the display was even doing I was way all speed limits and heading into full loss of lock me up and throw away the key

I decided to chuck a u-turn and down the beach freeway to see how it and was surprised again at just how and light it felt for a 1200. is no issue. Turns really and feels amazingly reassuring to in fact it is very easy to and ride fast.

Here’s a video from a YouTube taking one out in the streets. Look how front wheel just on popping up. Did someone say fun?

Ok so things that were me so far are that I can’t get it into at the lights for love nor money. I am told that the Aprilia are tight when new so maybe it ease up, but having to turn it off to pressure on the box to flick it into is not really an option at every

The seat is as thin as a KTM 540 EXC and feels quite hard yet soft I am seriously trying hard to big things wrong with it so The shrouds around the tank of force you into position on the but you can push back and sit up higher or up the seat onto the tank a wee bit and the slip stream kind of you into a pocket.

The suspension amazing, I flew over a hump and it barely noticed it, up some rough shitty down back streets and is yet fully reassuring that you can tip a roundabout at ridiculous speeds and quite sure that you are to have the travel and oomph to fang right out the other without a worry. I dont much about mechanics and setups, what I do know is this bike makes me confident and has the power in all the right

And what a great note have squeezed out of the stock Hard and tight sounding but and fierce without being all like and not barky raspy it’s KTM rival.

Listing in for a retail of $17,999 plus on and just starting to hit our shores now for rides, if you are into this of bike, or have never a big super motard before, I you to go and check this wicked out. It’s a stack than the Ducati and way better to at and ride that the KTM and goes absolute stink.

I know one for sure.

I totally want
