Full Review: 2008 Aprilia SportCity 250 Scooter

It’s easy to dismiss scooters; after all, they’re tamer, quieter, and slower than the average motorcycle. On the other hand, those qualities can be a good thing when you want an efficient way to zip around town and don’t need the performance or road presence of a bigger bike.

I spent a week with the 2008 Aprilia SportCity 250 scooter, and came away impressed with how easy it was to live with. Surprises included its high-speed stability (thanks to big, 15 inch wheels) and solid handling, but one unexpected incident prevented me from giving it a better rating.

haha love the bit about the pink dress G.B. But really though, i wish both bikers and scooter riders would stop the discrimination crap already! geez at least they’re not in a cage

(5) Scottie says:

Actually, I was just complimenting Aprilia for putting dual discs on the front and suggesting H-D should do the same on all their bikes.

I know that there many scooters sold every year. I just feel like I have more control when I can squeeze the tank/frame with my knees. Justified or not, I never feel integrated with a scooter.

What sold me on this scooter was that it looks cool and has nearly 50% better gas mileage than a large bike. That is awesome.

If gas were free and I wanted to drive more on the highway, then a motorcycle makes sense, but for in-city driving, scooters rule.

COMPARING THE PRICE BETWEEN A BIG MOTORCYCLE AND THE SCOOTERS…….IT’S LIKE GETTING FREE GASOLINE FOR THE NEXT 5 YEARS. how can you beat that when any vehicle is only to get you from point A TO POINT B.

I get over 100 miles per a 1.3 gallon tank of gas with my Honda Elite 80 2004 scooter that I bought new in 2008 from the Honda dealer.

I have my motorcycle license, but high gas prices encouraged the purchase of a 2008 yamaha vino 125 for commuting purposes…I really don’t care how it looks nor what anybody else thinks, when I am passing them by while they are filling up at the gas station….I admit, the Euro styling is somewhat frilly, but can’t find a pink dress in my size…..but I do honk my very girly horn when I go by, and some can actually hear it.

that being said, in my area, there is still way more selection for bikes, than for scooters…just because there are a lot of choices online doesn’t mean there are dealers everywhere, especially in rural areas where better gas mileage would ironically make the most sense yet has the fewest dealers due to demographic studies…etc….they could throw a bone….it would be nice. I mean, they have 100% electric scooters out west…none here…I have noticed travelling the greater the population, the less scooters, there is an inverse relationship due to danger from so many big SUVs……please, some manufacturer…listen to me now, believe me yesterday, but understand me now.

my closest vespa dealer owned by the harley dealer now gone….kind of hard to buy a scooter when nobody sells them.

if you build it, they will ride.
