The Piaggio Italian built Aprilia SR 50 is a to ride. It’s lightweight, has responsive handling, a screaming and some very strong It looks great (if you are into mini-super-bike styling), makes a lot of noise (almost an atomic-leaf sound with the aftermarket Leo pipe and Euro-squeaky brakes), but it a smile on my face like, like no other scooter I’ve ridden.

I’ve faster on a scooter, but not had as much fun slow as I do on the Aprilia.

I fell in with the Aprilia SR 50 long I considered the Genuine Blur of very few other sport — the last being the Tmax. which is dangerously to being a Maxi scooter). though the Blur and the Tmax the ability to take the freeways the SR 50 can’t, the smaller, lighter, aspect of the scoot makes it attractive for both beginner and for rider in-town scooting.

The SR 50 represents the best of scooting a lightweight and easy to maneuver device. Being a two-… scoot, it packs punch and high-tech, it sips fuel and so little two-… oil that the is located under the head set and a panel held in place two screws. Not the typical top it off mate at fuel stop of my old Vespa

This version is a 2007 SR 50 It’s a Morini-engined Ditech, direct injection (both and oil) two-…. It’s and is very well integrated a pretty good-looking package, with its power-coated blue and twin disk brakes. The engine hung on later in the U.S. but now all current SR 50s are equipped a 49cc Piaggio engine still two-…, and still with performance to spare, in stock form.

The Morini was notable in that it featured oil and fuel injection when a SR 50 came out in the U.S. in 2002. The itself is tiny, but with the air compressor (used to inject the oil and into the cylinder), it fills out the of the scoot nicely under the skirts. Even though the SR 50 has some pretty significant over the years, a very community at the Aprilia Forum for the and other SR 50s (as well as Aprilia helps keep them

And speaking of that Morini — It’s strong off the and keeps on pushing until it to the end of the power band, probably 8800 RPM. Oh, it will to almost 10,000 RPM, but well past the torque at that point. This scoot can easily exceed the moped speed limit of 30 mph will), so I generally take it on public roads.

When I bought the scoot it with the excellent LeoVince and roller weights specifically to help the SR 50 perform. No complaints I also added the a Puig windshield and am very happy the wind blocking and the increased performance.

It’s saying when I call the Aprilia SR 50 my scooter, it’s the right gets between 80 and 92 miles per and so far has been reliable. It wants a specific gap on its hard-working spark but other than that gas (and the occasional oil) and go.

Whether I’m thinking of a run to the store or a scoot downtown, I the Aprilia. That Aprilia is the Superbike World Champions have something to do with it, now I think about it (good Max Biaggi ). Of course everyone the scoot, so I use a few locks and try to park I or the house security camera can keep an eye on it.

I carry full on it and of course wear my helmet and all of my although I’m back to a 3/4 as it’s the only size fits in the tiny under storage compartment of the SR 50. See, I that I’d find a somewhere!

What’s next: More riding fun!
