Aprilia Scarabeo 50 di-tech et 100 4-T test

Intro: APRILIA Scarabeo 50 di-tech and 100 4-T

It is difficult to speak about scooters- it is impossible to circumvent the segment without evoking- the Aprilia Scarabeo. The Italian mark registers two innovations in the catalogue with one 50 Cm3 2 stroke with electronic direct injection baptized Di-tech and one 100 Cm3 4 stroke.

Having sold more than 500 000 units since its appearance- the 50 Cm3 should continue to prance at the head of the sales thanks to the adaptation of direct injection- which constitutes a revolution in the 2-stroke market. The pollutant emissions are thus reduced by 80– without a catalyser- and fuel and oil consumption decreases respectively by 50 and 40 -. These figures are exceptional for this category of engine largely pointing the finger at others at the time of peaks of pollution.

With a consumption of one litre of fuel for 50 kilometres and a reserve of eight litres- the Scarabeo 50 Cm3 makes it possible to go long distances- while being limited – well obviously to a strictly urban use. Its weak cubic capacity does not make it a beast in terms of performances; it plays the chart of the flexibility rather that promptness. The chassis is healthy; this scooter is comfortable- easy to manage. The controls are Japanese standard.

Well assembled and well thought out- however they are a little sad. The dash is- simple and readable; it offers the luxury of a fuel gauge .The possibilities of arrangements are summarized in just one space.

They existed already in 2 stroke- and now here for more robustness the 100 Cm3 4stroke. The goal of Aprilia is to extend to the maximum of the range. To note on this subject- that the Scarabeo family counts from now on six models.

This 4-stroke takes again the same framework as his little brother- the 50.To differentiate- it adopts a standard top case- for storing a helmet .The controls are brightened with a small key of colour and profit from the same treatment as for the remainder of the range. The finish is of good quality- and the functionality is up to date. The arrangements are exactly the same ones as of the 50- that is to say also restricted.

The one-cylinder one does struggle to take along the 94 kilos of the machine- the starting is franc and ideal downtown and the acceleration which follows from there does not have to embarrass vis—vis the performances of a 125 Cm3. The belt drive ensures a flexibility and maintainability. It should be noted that the slope of the steering column was modified in order to give more promptness to the machine.

The large 16inches wheels bring much more stability than the wheels of a smaller size- and fear less the pavement. Result- with its honourable performances and its increased stability- the small Scarabeo 100 to little even grant escapades on roads in all serenity. However- on the braking- only the rear drum is pointed out by its unpleasant blockings
