Bajaj Avenger 220 Ownership review — I get to feel like God

The Push

needed a push, says Fury in The avengers.

I needed a too, which I got when my found a job at Gurgaon. The change of from Noida to Gurgaon at seemed to be a Godsend, but when we to know that her office nt provide transport options, the vanished in thin air. A me put up a query in Tbhp inviting very helpful suggestions.

We over the options available and it was decided that we ll buy a bike I can use to pickup and drop her to and from the Thus the »Push»

A brief

I was not much of a bike guy, my very disappointing experience Kinetic GF170 Laser. Yes you right, I had bought that once. The initial joys had evaporated when I started service issues and spare availability problems.

Our Swift came home after years transformed me fully a Car Person and my love for two wheeled disappearing almost completely. The of going back to two wheels very slim.

That was until very when one of my colleagues was scouting for a which made me take a at the current biking scene in Soon the love rekindled things on two wheels but was not sufficient to push me into buying A push, which came later bundled with

What Bike?

Now that the was made to buy a bike, we were sure it should nt be a normal jane commuter. Requirements on changing as we scouted for options. requirements stressed on good decent power, which tilted more towards than mileage. Looks had importance and also exclusivity.

the comfort came into as we were moving from a car to a

Finally, all that mattered was Looks, Exclusivity and decent Mileage was pushed out of the equation and we seemed very happy a 35ish mileage as long as things are taken care of. One we were not sure off was the Budget.

we had put a cap at 70K initially, we realized our requirements may not be met at price point. So we decided to it as and when we find a worthy

Suggestions came pouring in all quarters. Fazers, FZs, Karizmas and many more looked into and were Of course my wife had a soft for the Pulsar.

For that matter even I had a towards it. When the GF170 had home years ago, had advised us to go for the Pulsar, which was beginning its illustrious carrier. as the Lazer fell apart due to of spares and an indifferent service up, and finally gave up, I had a feeling in the of my mind, if I had gone with a then, it would have been by my side.

Hence the corner.

But a major drawback for me was its on the roads and hence did nt qualify for the criteria which my wife was to overlook.

All this while I had the in mind, and slowly pushed the of buying one to my wife.

Avenger for me had advantages. Its ride position a more upright stance transformed into a perceptibly position for many. Then the that it is a looker and our roads are not filled with them, so a bit of exclusivity too. The 220 cc motor to have sufficient grunt to me happy too. Yes it did’nt very flick-able, but I m not normally in a as am not really the boy racer kind.

The bike for me had to be a comfortable cruiser of upping its ante and getting 100 K occasionally. But quite understandably of its useful life would be traversing straight lines at

It had a very strong competitor in the Enfield Thunderbird. While the RE is in a league all together, it fell out of due to its price which at over a Lac was our already stretched budget. The periods did nt do much help

Luckily wifey was impressed and importantly was willing to look the Pulsar now. Time to out the Avy then!!

Test ride and experience

Bajaj Probiking which used to sell the and Avenger earlier have now converted to KTM stores and will be only Dukes and Ninjas, a news report. Bajaj though still listed as Probiking stores and still P220 and Avy are available there. I a few mails at the email addresses of the outlets given in the website. All of bounced back.

I called up customer care and the most customer care executive answered the call.

Sir all outlets avengers now. She said/

I I know that, what I to know was that do the probiking still sell them?

Yes sir they still sell

Off I to Vasant Lok Probiking to check out the A KTM South delhi board me at the outlet and I could see only the On enquiry, I came to know the article was indeed correct. Pro outlets are now KTM Stores and sell Dukes and Ninjas.

Bajaj Avenger

Dont what the customer care was thinking?

Next, I called up Bajaj Dwarka and asked if have a bike for test The lady at the store said, we dont have the bike but if you make a booking and pay the booking we can arrange one in two days.

I was surprised and how they expected me to make a without a test ride? At she said, she ll get back to me in half n But that call never

Come on Bajaj don’t me hate you even before your bike.

Couple of calls and a day later, I finally a call from them to to the showroom and check out the Avenger.

Off we to check it out. The test would have to wait as else had taken the vehicle had a red one on their upper floors we checked out in the meanwhile. I took it off the and sat on the riders seat. First was »extremely comfortable».

Next got my wife to sit on the Pillion which according to her was quite even after considering its width. The back rest matters further, as the height just perfect for her.

The comfort however could be confirmed by the test ride was getting further delayed. As we had appointments to take care, we to leave the place as the test could be taken the next day

Our choice of colour was blue and the did nt have the colour in stock. But expected fresh stock to at night so the possibility of getting my on one the next day were pretty

Next day I was pleasantly surprised by a from the dealer saying the have arrived and there two blue bikes available. As were quite a few people who had for the avenger, if I hurry only I could lay my hands on it.

Fine I thought and hurried off. indeed had recieved stocks and new fully covered bikes kept outside the showroom. The was not surprisingly the latest Bajaj the 200NS.

My eyes however were on a covered Blue Beauty outside. Was it possible, I am looking at my bike here?

Without time, I asked for a test My main aim was to check ride and the ease of maneuverability in traffic. the first impressions there to be sufficient power on tap though I did nt push the bike to its limits. The seemed a bit stiff, but not bothersome.

Did nt feel too clumsy in the traffic Nothing that could be a deal breaker.

So the Avenger it is

Rest of the buying experience was and I was just going through the dreaming about my beauty.

I got a and a bike cover for free the bike. Helmet as expected nt seem to be of any use, would be a DOT certified one soon.
