Bike and Car Mileage Reviews

Bajaj Platina 100CC

With the ever growing demand for 100cc motorbikes, this lower end of the motorbike segment has seen some really good products come out in the past 2-3 years. Bajaj launched the Platina 100CC bike way back in 2006. The Bajaj Platina is powered by a 4 stroke natural air cooled engine that offers a maximum power of 8.2 BHP at 7500 rpm. It has a 13 liter fuel tank and a hydraulic telescopic type suspension.

The Bajaj Platina 100cc bike is priced at Rs. 38,990 (ex-showroom) in Delhi.

Official Bajaj Platina Mileage

Bajaj Platina is designed to provide a relatively better mileage compared to its peers. According to a company release, the bike was tested in a combination of city and highway conditions and the overall mileage that was noted was around 75 kmpl. For comparison, the mileages offered by TVS Star City.

Honda Stunner CBF and Honda Dream Yuga are 83.9 kmpl, 68.3 kmpl and 72 kmpl respectively.

Mileage Reported By Customer Reviews

The mileage reported in test drives from MaxAbout do not do justice to the mileage claimed by the company. According to the review, Bajaj Platina clocks 53-57 kmpl in highways and this falls down to 48 kmpl in city conditions. That’s pretty low for a 100cc bike. BikeAdvice though makes some pretty tall claims in its review. According to the blog, the Bajaj Platina clocks 108 kilometers per liter.

I’m not sure if this is the tested mileage or is reported from third party testings. Either way, this mileage appears to be an outlier and so do not expect the same on your bike.

Bajaj Platina

MouthShut has always been the best site to read about mileages reported by actual customers. On the website, Bajaj Platina gets a 4/5 rating for fuel consumption. While this is a pretty good rating, there are customers who report dissatisfaction; none of them with the fuel efficiency though.

However, there appears to be a great variation in the mileages reported. While one customer reports a mileage of between 55 – 60 kmpl in city conditions, there are others that note a fuel consumption of 70 kmpl. But the average  mileage you could see is around 55 kmpl.

On IndiaMart, customers report mileages of between 65-70 kmpl. One customer though writes that he is able to extract over 100 kmpl – maybe every once in a while there is a bike that offers a really awesome mileage. Maybe it’s the norm, or maybe Platina bikes that offer over 100 kmpl are an outlier.

In any case, even mileages of over 65 kmpl are not a bad option and so you can still go for them.

Should you buy?
