Cool Italian Ice: The 2009 Benelli TNT Sport

Sometimes, it just seems as though all the motorcycles you see on the road today are the same- Harley, Harley, Harley look-alike, Japanese sportbike. Seldom does a bike come along that really shakes up the status quo. Benelli, however, is one of those brands that you just don’t see every day. It isn’t because Benelli motorcycles are ridiculously expensive, but it is because they are very hard to find.

There are just 21 dealerships in the United States which carry this Italian bike new. If you’re lucky enough to live in one of the states with a Benelli dealership, it’ll be that much easier to lay your eyes on the 2009 Benelli TNT sport. The 2009 Benelli TNT sport is one of three iterations of the Benelli TNT line, which also includes a standard-issue Benelli TNT and a Benelli TNT sport EVO.

The 2009 Benelli TNT sport is powered by an inline- three cylinder engine that displaces 1,130 cubic centimeters and has a power rating of 135 horsepower. With liquid cooling and a dual overhead cam layout, 438-lb. dry weight, as well as an 11.2:1 compression ratio, the 2009 Benelli TNT sport is one quick ride. Gear changes on the 2009 Benelli TNT sport are accomplished by a six-speed cassette transmission with a chain final drive.

The 2009 Benelli TNT sport has a fuel capacity of 4.6 gallons, plenty to keep track day going for a while, or, of course, going back over that favorite twisty road you just can’t stay away from.

Braking on the 2009 Benelli TNT sport is handled by Brembo brakes both front and rear, with the front brakes consisting of dual 320mm dual floating discs with 4-piston calipers, while the rear is a 240mm fixed disc with 2-piston caliper. The rear suspension has adjustable rebound damping as well as adjustable spring preload, and affords the rider 4.72 inches of suspension travel. The front suspension is a 50mm inverted Marzocchi fork, which also offers 4.72 inches of travel.

The 2009 Benelli TNT sport is priced from $16,699, and is available in red, though the color is a bit of a misnomer. There are sections of the 2009 Benelli TNT sport which are red, notably the frame and swingarm, however, given that this is a naked sportbike, there is quite a lot of black and gray as well. If you’re considering a 2009 Benelli TNT sport for yourself, you really do owe it to yourself to try to see one in person.
