Intrepid Cycles Resolute

The industry’s first S-S production chopper

Intrepid appeared on the industry radar a short time ago when popped up at the Easyriders V-Twin in Cincinnati in January and debuted a of unique new custom motorcycles names that sounded British ships of the line: a model dubbed the Steadfast and a model, the Resolute. It was less fortuitous timing, all things inasmuch as the production-custom market had and continues to be, in the doldrums, and it was already a crowded field to begin But you can’t very well yourself intrepid if you’re to let a few minor clouds like deter you, and company Mike McGinley and Don Biron into the lukewarm waters of the sea of commerce, all steadfast and resolute.

And why not? They had something else in the industry could and that was the recently developed S-S T-series twin-cam motor, certified in three displacements. The offering on the Intrepid models is the version, and the 117- and 124-inchers are as upgrades.

And they had another going for them, too, could ultimately prove the important factor in their and that’s patience. Intrepid has essentially hit the ground walking, an initial production target of a 50 units in the first year, and that output to something on the of 200 units in the next two. those numbers may sound and maybe they are, and the third model they when they get around to it be called the Ambition.

In the case of the Resolute reviewed Intrepid offers an additional novelty beyond the twin-cam and that’s the fantastic stretch and 54-degree rake of the front and when I first set eyes on bike back in January my impression was: Is this even rideable?

The opportunity to that question for myself during the Laughlin River Run I spent a few hours riding, and examining the Resolute. Here are my

It ain’t half bad for us long-boned either, and my posture on the Resolute is much what I experience on Harley Softail models.

The Resolute has an impressive list of pedigrees including a Baker RSD transmission, Primo Rivera III Extreme primary, and the aforementioned S-S mill. Our test specimen was with an S-S Super G, and while the S-S VFI is as an option, the Super G setup for nothing; start-up is quick and and throttling manners are responsive and

The 111-inch motor is a potent producing in excess of 100 hp and providing a lunge when the wick is It does, however, also a steady buzz of vibration; enough to shake your off the pegs or numb your but enough to render the bike’s rearview mirrors blurry at any speed except 80 mph in sixth (which is a real prudent to be watching your back in

Handling, ride quality

big surprise, here. By rights and physics, that 54 degrees of should make for a front end a real floppy bugger to around, particularly at slow and in tight maneuvers. Even that six of those degrees are into the triple trees, the 48 degrees in the steering head are by any conventional standard.

So imagine my surprise when I the Resolute to be a capable handler in Laughlin traffic, taking predictably with no perceptible to flop. Intrepid attributes the slow-speed stability to the fork cinching the fork tubes aft of the fender, but that’s a tough technically. I wonder if there’s else they’re not telling me.

the Resolute’s chassis configuration a hell of a lot better than I have expected.

The Resolute’s Avon is the real limiting in the bike’s handling, as it is in any such which is why it’s so important to confidence in the front end’s so you can concentrate on the rear. On the open of the deserts around Laughlin, the big long wheelbase and fat skin to rock-steady, look-Ma-no-hands motoring.
