1980 Bimota SB-3 for

Posted on July 18, 2013 by tad

here’s a bit of a rare thing.  1980 Bimota SB-3 was a pretty seriously rare of kit in its day, and is even more so And when I say “kit”, I mean exactly: Bimota shipped the sans powertrain, and the buyer had to a donor bike for the engine and other assorted bits.

by Suzuki’s powerful GS1000 and transmission, the SB-3 combined Japanese four-cylinder power sophisticated frame and suspension then cloaked it futuristic, bodywork.  Take a look at one-piece tank cover and section!

Most of the eBay is just specs for the bike: Bimota SB-3 for Sale

SB3 1980 Bimota SB-3 of 402 built. Very rare in perfect condition. Please see for vehicle condition. The odometer is in kilometers = 2503 miles.

This bike is ex-Hodgson and is now in my collection.

If you’re not familiar them, except as makers of forkless, Ducati-powered exotica, the Bimota was derived from the founders; Valerio BIanchi, MOrri, and Massimo TAmburini.  was originally established in 1966, but not as a manufacturer: they specialized in and air-conditioning systems.

In the 70’s and many of the major manufacturers still figuring out frame and technology and, while machines often had powerful, engines, their handling was lacking.  This allowed boutique companies to step in and frame and bodywork kits to fit powertrains.

Bimota first wrapped its stiff frames and swoopy, bodywork around the Honda-powered in 1973 and the rest is history.

For edification: the first letter in any name indicates the motor the second is for “Bimota”, and the number how many bikes have by that manufacturer.  So a Bimota would be the fifth Bimota a Ducati motor.

Bimota has in-and-out of bankruptcy several since its creation, but it currently a broad lineup of achingly machines.  Handling deficiencies in motorcycles can generally be handled by or significant suspension upgrades, so has focused instead on innovative and exotic construction to sell

Just 402 of these were made, and they don’t up for sale very often.  contemporary reviewers criticized the as being far too harsh for the street, a this valuable and rare is more of a museum piece a rider.  But I’ll bet a set of updated and a new shock would make into something that compete with modern at the track…

1977 Bimota SB-2 for

Posted on December 20, 2012 by tad

this is something you don’t see a swoopy Italian confection a Japanese heart from era of synthetic fabrics and bottoms of the 1970′s.  Some consider the and style of this era at a nearly low.  But while the clothing of the is still considered by some to be tacky, chances are no one would noticed whatever disco-riffic abomination you were wearing if you up on something like this.

1970′s fashion was of debatable but the era spawned some undeniably cars and motorcycles.

For a detailed of the SB-2 copy-and-pasted from the hop on over to the original eBay 1977 Bimota SB-2 for

The name Bimota was derived the three founders; Valerio Giuseppe MOrri, and Massimo Bimota was established in 1966 and in heating and air-conditioning systems.  got their start working motorcycles by wrapping innovative, and light frames around and powerful Japanese motors, with the Honda-powered HB-1 in

If you’re seeing a pattern with the alpha-numeric naming, you win a polyester paisley sports the first letter indicates the manufacturer, the second is for “Bimota”, and the indicates how many bikes powered by that manufacturer.  So a DB-5 would be the fifth with a Ducati motor.

Like many Italian Bimota has been in-and-out of since its creation, but it currently a broad lineup of achingly machines, including a new BMW-powered

I really love the way the seat to the self-supporting, aluminum one-piece and tank.  And check out those quick-release straps on the sides!  The really one of the bike’s most features, looks amazing shorn of bodywork to reveal the rear suspension and tightly engine.

Lighter and better-handling the original Suzuki GS750 donated its motive force, the was almost impossibly far ahead of its

The “Buy-It-Now” price is at $48,000 current bidding at $35,500 “Reserve Not Met” still us with its blue lettering.  no idea what these are worth, as they only come up for sale.  But with about 100 ever built by one of the storied manufacturers in history, is surely a rare opportunity.
