2009 BMW F800 ST Road Review

BMW’s F800 ST a new level of appeal to the term

From its staid, conservative of not so many years ago, BMW has itself into a vibrant of avant-garde motorcycle design, and now a range of machines to suit of just about any persuasion.

In years it has set about steadily its existing models, while developing entirely new bikes to gaps in its model line-up.

The F 800 ST one of those gaps, and since its in the latter half of 2006, it – with its F 800 S sibling – has met with approval. Several hundred F have been snapped up in thus far, and it looks the future of this punchy is assured.

The F 800 ST (as in ‘Sports Touring’) has outstripped of the F 800 S (as in ‘Sports’) by some margin, really isn’t that – the ST is still a remarkably sporty while a few other changes the separate panel) give it the appeal we’ve come to with sports tourers.

We we’d better take look.

At the heart of the bike is an parallel-twin, which BMW claims is for 62.5kW (at 8000rpm) and 86Nm (at It’s BMW’s first and it is immediately obvious after an F 800 for a spin that the company has its homework.

Matched with a 187kg dry weight, there’s ample go to plaster a smile to your It’s not intimidating, there is plenty of useable ‘oomph’ a broad spread of revs, in an that’s equally happy to along or devour revs all the way to its redline.

BMW has pulled a rabbit out of its hat – the F 800 ST is manageable enough for relative or those returning to biking a break, yet entertaining enough to keep seasoned veterans back for more.

The good is this engine is to be employed in bikes in the BMW range, like the arrived (late last F 800 GS dual purpose model – and you can on more to come.

A bridge-type aluminium frame utilizes the engine as a stressed has been employed, and together the rear monoshock and front forks it makes for a wonderfully ride over a variety of even though the suspension – non-adjustable front forks – is low spec.

I just love the way the F 800 ST up a winding road. It’s light and nimble, and while no razor-sharp supersport machine, its and involving ride had me howling delight.

Those front twin-disc, stoppers offer ample and feel, and the rear is quite too – more than enough to you happy on the road or at a track

“In the F 800 ST, BMW has produced a consummate all-rounder…”

I the ride position suited me At 190cm I’m on the taller side, but the seat height still me decent legroom and the ’bars an easy stretch away. For on the shorter side, a lower seat is also available.

The offers a good amount of the instrumentation is smart and the overall of finish is of BMW’s typically standard. Given its cheap a BMW road bike) price tag of it’s really difficult to see any compromise has been made.

Downsides? Nothing major. The is on the clunky side, but to be honest doesn’t affect its efficient and the clutch is a bit of a clunker too – although only notice it at low speeds, when filtering through

But these aren’t actually more characteristics.

The F 800 ST and F 800 S share the same chassis, and engine, but there are a number of between the two which give the ‘S’ a outlook on life. The ‘ST’ has a screen, making it better for distance work, plus bodywork. The S also has clip-on which give it a slightly aggressive ride position.

Finally the pair sport alloy wheels, and the ST weighs in at 5kg heavier than its sportier
