BMW redefines the maxi-scooter

BMW is hitting the scooter hard and heavy with the C 650 GT luxury scooter and the C 600 Sport sportster that will the way you think about scooters.

The impressive thing about the BMW C 600 is how stable the chassis is at high I mean, this is a scooter but it has got stability like a motorcycle. Its inline-two-cylinder engine has enough to propel it to speeds in excess of its electronic governor. The engines in C-class scooters allegedly 60 horsepower at 7500rpm and 48.7 of torque at 6000 rpm when at their crankshafts. (We expect 50 horses at the wheel – Ed.)

ABS come as standard, and BMW uses two discs up front. This be enough in theory, but let’s not that the C 600 Sport weighs in at a 549 lbs and hence the brakes are not the strongest of the new BMW scooters. I had no problems braking when mountain riding, but the have a lack of feedback and a bit spongy.

No worries at all about safety; I wanted stronger brakes or bulk.

The seat is taller and than the luxury sofa on the 650GT. This is to emphasise the and additional sharper handling of the Sport. It is still comfortable but not in the league as the GT.

The sportier seat more freedom to move and that’s the whole point the C 600 Sport.

Under the seat is a large storage compartment and BMW calls Flexcase which additional storage space for an full-face helmet when the is parked. An expandable membrane is for the extra space, but this can be used when parked (as the touches the rear wheel expanded), and the engine will not when the flexcase is deployed. Two helmets can fit without expanding the if they’re on the small side.

It will easily swallow a big bag and a full-faced helmet.

Due to the 70-degree inclination of BMW’s new parallel-Twin the whole package is very but not flat enough to completely out the area between the rider’s BMW should have added a underneath the ignition key as seen on scooters, as this would for a small bag or additional helmet to be should you have used the compartment for something else.

The sporty part of the Sport is I have never enjoyed a scooter fast this – it’s very close in to riding a full-on 600cc through the corners. As soon as 647cc engine is spinning, is lots of torque giving corner exit speed. Due to the transmission, you do ride differently to a particularly mid-corner where you have to let go completely of the throttle.

It a peculiar feeling of cruising mid-corner when in reality you are as fast as you possibly can. You use the engine to control speed, and the brakes have to be used you wouldn’t on a motorcycle. The nature of the CVT makes the engine work in a rather than progressive

The C 600 Sport wears Pirelli Scooter tires in dimensions front and 160/60-15 rear. The and profile is the same dimension as on motorcycles but are on 15-inch aluminium rather than 17-inchers.

The console has a modern feel, and revs are showed in a small graphic. There’s plenty of and I particularly enjoyed the outdoor and miles per gallon feature. At top it showed around 5.1 litres per (46 mpg), which isn’t bad at all the high speed with the in its upper position.

The fuel takes 4.23 gallons, and solution in opening the fuel cap is very clever as you just the ignition key and switch left to it. Do the same towards the right and the opens. This enables you to at the petrol station and open the cap without having to move.

The Sport’s three-position windscreen is manually adjustable, and you can’t do this whilst riding. The on the C650GT is much more and is electrically adjustable. The Sport’s is lighter and sleeker.

Our test had the sporty Cosmic blue paint. Other options are the metallic and silver metallic, doesn’t complement the sporty of the 600 quite as much as the blue.

BMW has a very good job in creating its bona fide scooter. about the roof-equipped C1, as that was a bit of a concept. The C 600 Sport is a proper BMW style.

It’s very through corners and also on the motorway, with great only really found on The footboards that allow sporty riding and a stretched position is a great feature, and the is another ingenious invention adds to the practicality of the 600 Sport.

Ed again — the C 600 Sport expected to hit U.S. dealers this fall, arriving as models. Pricing hasn’t yet announced, but we’re expecting an around $10,000.
