BMW K1300R: Still turning

BMW has a of excellent bikes on the market: the the F-series adventure bikes, the K and tourers and their king of the (and pretty much all of the surrounding that hill), the popular R1200GS.

These garner a lot of media attention so are some models that in relative obscurity despite extremely good machines in own right.

One such is the K1300R.

The basic of the bike dates back to originally with a 1200cc In 2009 the bike (along the rest of the K-series) received a engine as well as a new look. It that look and the engine the 2013 model year, the fact that the K-series now sport 1600cc power.

In the looks department the futuristic appearance of the K1300R has well – the bike still attention wherever it goes. Its sibling, the K1300S, looks bland despite being the practical bike.

The 1300R feels surprisingly despite being a big bike an overall length of 2228mm and 243kg wet. It’s remarkably narrow (856mm including the mirrors) which it much easier to handle in traffic than its size have you believe.

The tiny bug shield screen little more than the panel) proved to be more at highway speed than I have expected, but for serious riding the 1300S with its fairing would be a much option. The 1300R is an urban par excellence but definitely not a multi-mission

The review bike was equipped BMW’s stability control, suspension adjustment and anti-lock which gave me a great of confidence on the few rainy days in the period. The bike seemed to off the uncertain road conditions, me to ride at near normal

Bike specifications

While changes were slick and the 1300R lacks the weighted found on some of BMW’s models. The clutch was painfully which became an annoyance in traffic. Thanks to the engine’s however, it was less of an issue in but flowing traffic – keeping the in third gear, I could ride anywhere from up without labouring the engine.

The 1300 engine produces torque and that endows the with a claimed 0-100km/h of 2.9sec. Combined with a forward-canted seating position and handling, despite its weight, the feels much sportier you would expect from is essentially a muscle bike.

As expected, power delivery was and linear throughout the rev range. the Kawasaki ZX-14R and Suzuki’s and B-King (the latter the 1300R’s most direct the Beemer’s acceleration is relentless. It early in the rev range and never lets up until you hit the rev limiter.

Beyond 200km/h this a bit academic, as the lack of wind precludes any extended time in speed range.

In summary, the is typical BMW: well-made, and a pleasure to ride. It’s however, of the BMW’s of bygone being fast, nimble and with exceptional riding

Had it not been for the lack of wind (inherent in any … bike), it well have been a for all roads.
