R 100 R-S is a motorcycle with a two-cylinder four-cycle double-piston engine with approximately 1000 cm, produced by the enterprise BMW, capacity.

R 100 R-S (and their sister models, see below) were manufactured from 1976 to 1981. There were at first during introduction of the new series with the collective name line filters the model variants BMW R 100 R-S (51 kW/70 HP), R 100 S (51 kW/70 HP), R 100 (44 kW/60 HP), R 75/7 (37 kW/50 HP) and R 60/7 (30 kW/40 HP) built.

R 100 R-S was with 200 km/h one of the fastest series motorcycles of the world and the world first motorcycle with standard frame-firm full lining.

R 100-Modelle received a double disk brake assembly in the front wheel. In the back a full hub interior cheek drum brake was installed, with which R became later 100 R-S and with the blanks partially an individual disc brake at the rear wheel blocked. The new top models had aluminum Filigranguss wheels instead of the All models have a Kardanantrieb to the rear wheel.

Beside the partly changed stroke areas the cylinder head covers of the new models were angularly implemented and for better heat dissipation black painted. This measure did not encounter however everywhere approval; the classical appearance for sake sake thousands of engines were reequipped on the old cylinder head caps, those completely and are exchangeable in the BMW building block principle.

The same cockpit fairing, which also already distinguished the predecessor model R 90 S, has R 100 S a tail in series a double disk brake at the front wheel and wheels with spokes, as also the capacity-smaller models.

Later three further machines, R 80/7 than slightly capacity-extended separation of R 75/7, then a large route model with R 100 blanks, came essentially identically constructed with R 100 R-S, however with higher windshield, and than late variant R 100 CS (Classic sport), essentially the combination of the strongest mechanics of 100 R-S with the steering wheel-firm half shell lining of the S-version, and/or, if one wants so, by 5 HP in the achievement raised S. in the same series.

Into the 1980er years wanted BMW for environmental protection and marketing reasons the water-cooled K75 and K100-Modelle to force and from the old Zweiventiler Boxermodellen to separate. After to some protests of customers and dealers had led this decision, BMW turned and supplied again R 100er models, however with modified, somewhat achievement-weaker engines of 60 HP. Then also again a 800er version with 50 HP came out additionally.

Parallel 1979 the Enduro model R 80 G/S with chassis modification (a arm rocker in the back) and savings equipment (no tachometer) were brought out, which were renamed later on gs without diagonal pass and an improved chassis got.

In the meantime there were also 800er route models in the savings trim of the G/S including a arm rocker. To good the latter also the Paralever was tried out still at the two-valve he engine: the last 1000er Zweiventiler Boxermodelle got still the first execution of the Paralever, before this principle of the improved rear wheel storage with the new Vierventiler Boxern of the series R 850/R came out 1100.

The Paralever works the elevator – effect against, which brings an accelerated BMW to ascending the tail, while gas taking away leads to the Zusammensacken of the suspension. With the Paralever these influences of driving safety are in favor of minimized. With it also the reason for the saying of the rubber cow ended, which easily the motorcycle journalist Ernst Leverkus, mentioned to Klacks, had found once.

Since the engines and chassis of the Zweiventiler Boxer are compatible far partly among themselves, a certain caution is recommended with the purchase to examine whether a motorcycle is in original condition. Often achievement-changed engines on the entire achievement pallet were inserted of artificially throttled 20 HP and 27 HP engines of various stroke areas up to racing-revised 1000ern with far more than 80 HP.

The most extreme changes are old /5er or /6er models, which received the newest Paralever chassis after a framework damage and an engine of experienced Tunern such as Fallert over 85 HP have. Such sport changes were used also approx. two decades long with the ever more popular international long-distance running the series of Battle OF Twins.
