Rui’s BMW R65LS

It is clear Marnitz and I are going to have our cut out for us this year to prevent Write Up from becoming a BMW custom motorcycle blog. Not we have anything against the but we like to feature customs from a variety of manufacturers’ and presently everybody seems with recreating BMW models the 1970s and 1980s.

This is an international one and there is good, logic behind the BMW’s as a foundation for a custom motorcycle. BMW always built well ever reliable, boxer powered models. Because performance and looks were in comparison to the Japanese and other manufacturers’ models of the time, the of these BMWs wound up in non-abusive hands when new and lived well maintained

Whilst the Japanese bikes being tuned, chopped, and destroyed from new, the were being enjoyed in standard form by their supported by BMW seemingly always prepared to supply parts for products, no matter how old. means that, thirty later, although originally far BMWs were sold in Africa than Japanese many reliable examples of clean shaft driven are still in daily use whilst the products have been in pieces on Bike Hospital’s for twenty five years.

Our featured motorcycle, a BMW R65LS racer, is a good example of how BMW have survived intact. 6389 were produced 1982 and 1985, which in production terms is a small yet this is the second R65LS to grace our pages. What this model stand out the standard R65 was the Hans Muth triangular fairing which was effort to introduce a sporty, aspect to a dated motorcycle.

The was received with mixed by the public. The triangular Muth Suzuki Katana fairing, was a completely Muth styled was far more successful. Other differences were the alloy pattern and twin front

A modest 50hp provided a 170km/h top speed.

This belongs to Rui from Pretoria, who is a nineteen year old student his studies in England. The motorcycle was as a father and son project with his Mario. Rui bought the completely motorcycle and Mario paid for V Motorcycles to turn it into a café racer according to combined design.

The original panniers and angular were removed. An Arlen Harley Davidson fairing was using the original headlight a yellow tinted film to the glass. The wire mesh was by Mario and Rui from a car swop and installed by them over the

Clubman handlebars lower the stance of the front end. A compact gauge replaces the cluster.

The standard fuel and front mudguard were This was originally the red version came standard with wheels. The wheels have powder coated black to the black paint work, by Rudi from Kicker

To break the blackness, red was introduced on elements, such as the BMW logo. I what BMW marketing would The original tail piece and was replaced with a shortened off a BMW R100 model. An after tail light fits into the curved area used to house the R100′s

Very neat! Originally Rui and had the seat upholstered in black but had it in brown, as they felt the brown seat enhanced the racer look they trying to create. Turbo silencers are fitted onto the exhaust header pipes.

the R65LS remains factory and reliable.

How many fathers and sons to attempt a project and never the time to actually follow Rui and Mario’s unique creation hopefully motivate us all, and sons, to get cracking with our own immediately.
