My Buell XB9SX and XB12STT (LOOOONG)

My Buell XB9SX and review (LOOOONG)

NOTE: review was thrown together I apologize if it lacks a flow or

I’ll start by saying I really do like Buells a Ever since I first saw the and then Lightnings I was hooked. I street fighters, I love the of the Buells, the frames, the wheels, the brake, the whole shebang.

the fact that the bikes a motor derived from a motor was fine by me. As much as I Harleys and a lot of the culture around I can appreciate the motors. Yes they are but they seem to be damn bullet-proof.

I woke up early morning and headed to Meredith in NH near Laconia. Nice and the Buell truck out front was by the entire Buell lineup. The was incredibly nice, helpful, and

You can tell they’ve done of these demo days, and the has made many stops. the bikes had also seen one too hard days, and it didn’t like they were in tip-top shape. More on later.

I went in with the of riding the XB9SX and the XB12STT. As as the 1125R is, I want upright and comfort. I signed up to ride the XB9 then the XB12 on the next

Each ride was led by an employee, and had one at the in case people straggled There were about 10 total in each group. well setup route, a nice variety of conditions from traffic lights to roads, to a few 55 mph byways.

Anyway, I a leg over the XB9 and was ready to set off. firing up the motor I realized everyone was serious when said the bikes shake a lot at The bikes vibrates so much at it’s comical. I was actually there chuckling to myself. The lever (non adjustable) was a far reach for my dainty hands, and had a pull.

First engaged with a thud, and off we went. The throttle on the was so poorly adjusted that it feel like it was joined to the the motor didn’t seem to until I had twisted the throttle a ј of the That was annoying. When the did pull away it was basically

It had enough torque to get along, but you revved it not a whole lot happened. I for sure it would be faster my SV, and it sure as hell didn’t like it.

The suspension was also not well at all for my weight, and desperately the fork tubes lowered, and stiffened up. The bike simply want to lean over, was disappointing because you always how awesome Buells handle. I can’t really fault the for that, it was a demo ride. The were awesome. One finger, of feel, and very little required.

With that being the super short wheelbase on the XB9 the bike feel like it to do a stoppie every time I got on the Shifting gears was absolutely 1-2 required a lot of effort, and frequently work.

And because the throttle was so adjusted, it made smooth even harder. Neutral was to find.

Return back to fairly disappointed, I got on the XB12STT. away the bike felt a better to me. Little bigger, stance, suspension was better. as I rolled to the first stop, the end made a horrid mechanical sound under braking bearing felt shot).

I on because the bike felt under way. Further that the demo bikes in mediocre shape.

The longer wheelbase of the STT was MUCH on the road than the XB9’s one. The bike felt a lot nervous, and more willing to The longer travel suspension felt much better my weight. The bike felt a cross between a motard and bike (which is what were going for so far as I know). The on the XB12 was junk, just the XB9, and the gearbox was also

Again, the brakes were and the XB12’s motor is MUCH Torque EVERYWHERE, and a really tug once you got above 2.5k. I liked the feel of the motor you get past the poorly adjusted

Of the two bikes the XB12 is worlds and the one I would buy.

The one thing was really tough to get over on bikes (and was not a by-product of a beaten demo bike) was the My god the bikes are hot. At a light you are sitting on an oven, with hitting you everywhere. You get absolutely

Even at speed the bike puts out some serious In the winter the bike would be

Overall I left disappointed. I the bikes are better than they had on display based on I’ve gathered from riders. You could tell every machine there had a short and very hard

It’s a shame they keep up on the basic adjustments.

Am I against getting a Buell No, not really. The STT can still be had for well $9k brand new, and the motor was a I also know that the once dialed in, would be on the streets.

Add to that the fact there is next to no maintenance on the bike, and it still looks

The only thing that is keeping me from pulling the is the heat. I commute a lot, and I’m a big ATGATT person (as those of you ridden with me know). on a Buell in summer traffic on 93 be borderline torture.

For now I’m going to try and someone local with an that’s in good shape and see if let me take it for a spin. If the bike better than the demo it will be back on my list.
