KTM LC8 950 beginnings Seeing as we just got hit by lots of snow around the midwest.  I’m sure many of us will need a good sit to relax those sore muscles.   While many dream about the New 1190 Adventure, how about some worth while reading material to touch up on your KTM knowledge. So go grab a nice drink and take a load off. “Aug 2002″ After the first press voices concerning the riding impressions on the 950 Rally prototype in the april newsletter, it is now the job of Alan Cathcart, former street-racing champion, now freelance journalist with international reputation, to add not only his impression of the new model, but also giving you detailed background information of the ...

2008 Bimota DB7 Sport Rider

2008 Bimota DB7 – Rising From The Ashes 146_0809_03_z+2008_bimota_DB7+three_quarter_view.jpg Bimota is back in the superbike arena once again. The small Italian specialist manufacturer’s latest journey along the comeback trail-courtesy of pharmaceutical and agricultural magnate Roberto Comini-has seen the Italian boutique brand acclaimed for the DB5 sportbike and its DB6 Delirio naked spinoff model. Using the Ducati desmodue motor, the DB5 and DB6 are the modern counterparts of the DB1, the bike that saved Bimota from the brink of bankruptcy back in 1983. But now it’s time to take Bimota to the next level in terms of performance and allure, with the introduction of the Ducati ...

1999 Bimota DB4 – PNW Riders

Some of you Salem/Portland peeps may recognize this piece of Italian finery. This Bimota belonged to Chuck aka midvalleysuperbiker who I’m told took a great deal of pride in ownership. I never had the pleasure of meeting Chuck but from what I gather the next caretaker of this gorgeous mistress has some big shoes to fill. Around the time of the 2012 Seattle Bike Show (December) the DB4 arrived at my shop. I wanted the bike to be as fresh as possible but I didn’t have any maintenance history to work with. Not much in the way of ownership history either. All we knew was Chuck bought it from a guy in 2009. At least the miles were on the low side at 4600. Even still, I was staring at ...

Bimota SB8K Gobert review – Sportsbikes – Motorcycles – Visordown

Bimota SB8K Gobert Bimota is officially back in business following a couple of years away from the biking scene. With a small yet focussed team of experts, Bimota is back to basics. There are no plans for mass production, but limited numbers of innovative and unique machines. First out is the SB8K, part of the old stock of parts and engines inherited by the new concern. Not an old bike per se, Bimota has waved its magic spell over the engine management system working considerable wonders in the process. The latest version of Bimota SB8K is clever in losing the loutish behaviour of the donor TL1000 engine. You’d be hard pushed to guess exactly what powers this superb machine around the track, ...

DUh duh da da da da MY BIMOTA!

I just said goodbye to a former mistress today, my Bimota YB10 Dieci (“Ten”), a true alpha bitch of a motorcycle. We were together for the last five years. It’s now progressing into a new liaison with a rider in Michigan. Over the years, our relationship bridged a huge spectrum of emotions. It all started out with unbridled lust, which softened to a deep empathetic kinship. Soon, frustration, and annoyance sprang up in the relationship. Eventually, apathy was all that was left between us. At that point, it was obvious that our time together had come to an end and we separated. The Dieci was intensely attractive. I remember first seeing the bike advertised on a popular SoCal Ducati dealer’s ...

To Rimini for Bimota on motorcycle

To Rimini for Bimota on motorcycle Insepction of our shiny Bimota Mantra In may, 2000, we rode up and down towards Rimini, Italy, in order to have Bimota check the Mantra. The Mantra showed severe jittering when braking. Ernst didn’t take many photographs during the trip itself, so I did put photographs of the Bimota factory throuhgout the page. Bimota is a beautiful, small factory: I was very sorry when I heard that it would be closed. Fortunately, at the end, a buyer has been found, so the factory is functioning again. Anyway, we were very lucky to have been there, that’s for sure. On this page: Departure The Mantra in its birthplace We don’t get up very early of ...

Bimota BB1

Bimota BB1

Bimota BB1 vs Yamaha SZR 660 ‘ Mark, your arse is on fire.’ We were negotiating a roundabout when I noticed smoke wafting from the back of the Supermono. ‘Yeh, I know,’ he shouted over the thudding engine. ‘The vibrations are killing me bum. ‘ ‘No, I mean the tail unit is smouldering – look.’ We stared at the plastic melting onto the exhausts. And so it began – ten miles from Peterborough en route to Wigan’s twistiest race track, Three Sisters, the Bimota tried to self-destruct and kept on trying for the next three days. To be fair, vibrations generated by single cylinder bikes are difficult to balance, so they all loosen mirrors, ...
