The Good, The Bad and The Ugly…. Let’s start with the Good. For such a simple bike there is a surprising amount of work that needs to be done for restoration / modification. Much of this is bad and ugly, so a couple of incentives are needed to keep you motivated. The frame / rear swingarm / battery tray / instrument bracket and side stand were all powdercoated before shipment, so I have a nice glossy base to start bolting bits back onto when the time is right. My ’76 SS250 OTOH is still rusty and in pieces and I can’t find anyone local to take on the powdercoating task. It’s not that often you see them on the road and, with Cagiva going through the usual Italian bike manufacturer process of being sold, bought then sold again, I assumed the Raptor had been put out to pasture. No so, as here is a new model. So what’s new? The chassis, swingarm and suspension remain the same but Cagiva’s own fuel injection system now feeds the latest version of Suzuki’s SV650 motor.
