Ural Sales up 39 Percent Along with their Cool Factor 2012 Ural Gear Up – 2WD adventure sidecar rig This Ural PR piece hit my inbox yesterday and it got me thinking. What is it about the Ural that has them on the upswing while so many other bikes are collecting dust on showroom floors? That M70 anniversary model we wrote about just over a month ago sold out in less than 2 weeks. The Ural is suddenly cool after being around for 70 odd years. It’s certainly no super bike, it isn’t going to be a favorite of the boy racer crowd, there aren’t any carbon fiber accessories and the majority are sold with sidecars, yet the numbers are going up and the dealer network is actually ...

The 2009 Ural Gear Up – Yahoo Voices – voices.yahoo.com

The Bike with the Sidecar from the Factory, the 2009 Ural Gear Up The 2009 Ural Gear up is an interesting excursion for motorcycling; incorporating WWII-era styling and military looks with a modern air-cooled 749cc opposed-twin engine is only the beginning of the story. Where the 2009 Ural Gear up departs from even the feel of a retro motorcycle is the fact that this motorcycle could easily be a viable contender in the ATV market for hunters and fishermen who want a vehicle that’s small, maneuverable, has some storage space, and is entirely street legal. The 2009 Ural Gear up answers concerns that off-roaders might have concerning taking their full-sized trucks off-road. There are just ...

Joe Brown Highway – Part One Southern Tennessee, Cherokee National Forest, border area of Georgia, TVA country. About 15 miles from my home is this power generating station. The way it works is that there is a 35 foot dam about four or five miles up the river and the dammed up water is channelled into a wooden sluice box thing and it follows along the cliff edge at a slight downward slope while the river falls much deeper below. Finally, at this point, the water comes out of the wooden sluice and plunges 280 feet or something which turns the turbines as if it were a 280- foot dam. Pretty ingenious. I’m parked on a bridge over the Ocoee River which is stuffed with kayakers from about ...

Ditch Your Sidecar: New Ural ST Coming to USA …

Ditch Your Sidecar: New Ural ST Coming to USA A common Letter to the Editor at a motorcycle publication or website might read something like this: “Let the manufacturers know that we don’t want a 180-mph superbike, or some giant, $20,000, chrome-laden land barge. We just want a simple, easy to ride, easy-to-maintain bike that’s priced well under $10,000, something like the Triumph or BMW I had when I first started riding.” Are you sure that’s what you want? ‘Cuz there’s a big ol’ factory in Irbit, Russia-it’s not far from Yekaterinburg, if that helps you out-that’s been itching to build such a bike for you for many years. Ural IMZ is best-known for making what is basically ...

World Exclusive: 2014 Ural Gear-Up Sidecar Review RideApart

Reviews – December 13, 2013 Until now, riding a Ural sidecar has been an exercise in survival. With engineering dating back to before the Second World War, things like performance, handling and braking were, in lieu of a clever analogy, just plain terrible. Can they? Find out in this world exclusive 2014 Ural Gear-Up Sidecar review. What’s New An awful lot. To its classic 749cc boxer-twin, Ural has fitted fuel-injection. ...

Getting a handle on sidecars – The Globe and Mail

Getting a handle on sidecars Add to. I recently took rider training and now I’m looking to purchase a motorcycle. I’d really like a decent-sized bike but I’m safety conscious and have occasionally had some handling issues with bigger bikes. I’m wondering if a sidecar will help? – Sara in Moncton A sidecar will definitely get you noticed about town, and be handy to haul groceries and find out which of your friends really trust you, but is it the answer to your handling concerns? “In a word: no. In actual fact, riding with a sidecar is a lot trickier and more difficult than riding without,” says Raynald Marchand, national co-ordinator of the Canada Safety Council’s Gearing ...

Ural, famous for its 2wd sidecar motorcycles went to create a solo motorcycle that would capture the best of Ural – its simplicity, versatility, the classic lines. Think of it as a bike that could have been produced by Ural in the 1970-s if the engineers were allowed to fulfill their ambition for a performance two-wheeler. We took care of unfinished business and put together a motorcycle that answers the need for something functional, simple and reasonable. Just what a real motorcycle should ...

2012 Solo ST 750 2012 Ural Solo sT 750 Like most nations across Europe during the early 1940s, the Soviet Union was itself preparing for their inevitable clash with Adolf Hitler’s forces. That meant building up a hefty reserve of all the required military vehicles necessary to defend themselves against the invading German Panzers, ground troops, and Special Forces. Back then side-car motorbikes were one of the most feared weapons of war and the Soviets needed to counter Germany’s sidecar with one of their own. Created by dismantling BMW R71 motorcycles that had been smuggled into Russia, Stalin’s engineers built the very first M-72 sidecar motor bike. ready for combat. From there, a ...

2010 Ural Patrol T Test Ride – Popular Mechanics

2010 Ural Patrol T Test Ride Ural’s Patrol T motorcycle sidecar combines back-to-basics design with modern components and a robust two wheel-drive powertrain. Exactly how robust? We piloted the three-wheeler through knee-deep snow to find out. Seattle- Once a government-issue workhorse of communist Russia, Ural’s rugged motorcycle sidecar has evolved from an agricultural appliance to the steed of choice for certain Western recreational thrill seekers. The cult of off-road sidecar riders may be a small niche, but their enthusiasm for traversing seemingly impassable terrain is infectious. Attacking moonscapes like Death Valley, Moab and Copper Canyon, these hearty enthusiasts revel ...

Miles Holden Ural Solo Racer

The Story of Miles Holden—A Ural Racer —Miles came to us with an incredible story, a love for motorcycles, and he was on a mission to race a Ural. We’re giving Miles his own forum here on the blog and this is his first entry in what will hopefully be a year of bench racing, stories, and reports.
