A few months ago I had the pleasure of a 999R for a couple of hours or so on of my favourite country roads out in the That bike was probably the focused motorcycle I have ridden on public roads. With evolution in mind the 999 has now up the ladder and has taken a mighty of WSB technology and now offers a staggering and a whole host of tweaks and modifications directly from the bikes. Now don’t get confused with the Japanese power of 1lt bikes, those staggering of 170-180bhp are way ahead of the Ducati, but ask any Ducati rider and you will get the answer, its all about the way the power is

Ducati has gone through all of different phases in order to up with the new 999. Improve the improve the running gear and all else make huge to the motor. Take a look at the and you will instantly recognise it as a but look a bit closer and you will to notice many differences.

The lower and top fairing has changed in size and volume and now offers a better aerodynamic shape and at high speed. The top fairing and area is now larger and more with a higher screen, as previously 999R. The lower has a different shape, but still similarities to the 2004 999 R. The total shapes is now far more rounded and change has come about extensive wind tunnel by Ducati.

There is also a saving with the new fairing of 1.5kg as the overall thickness has reduced in many areas. The new 999 is now lighter overall than its weighing in at 186kg it is still in excess of its Japanese rivals, but weight is not the whole story for a going superbike.

Looking at the new 999 you can see of the changes to the outside, but the most developments are inside the motor or that gorgeous fairing. take a look at the engine for Gone is the old 124 hp unit, it is now replaced a fabulous 143bhp motor some 111Nm of torque at t6his makes it more and higher torque that years S version! The new engine has a host of developments including cam profiles for higher power, and it is now with ventilated belt specially designed to lower belt temperatures from 100 deg C to 90 deg C.

The motor now runs higher ratios and has a much deeper oil as per the factory race bike. addition gives much levels of internal oil control and a lot less movement during acceleration, and when the front end skyward, which seems to be of the time!

The 999 has also benefitted a number of chassis changes. The now traditional steel trellis is pretty much the same but it now a modified rake angle stability. At the rear you will notice a brand new swingarm looks exactly like the the ones fitted to the Fila ridden by World Champion Toseland.

Not only does new box section swingarm look the it has led to a dramatic improvement in the overall of the new 999. The new design is far more without changing the standard but the bonus here is that it is now lighter by some 500g yet the strength has gone up by 27%.

So you have it . a look into of the changes made to the new 2005 999 level bike, but what’s it to ride? Getting on the bike you realise that the overall position has changes also, a bit more comfortable with strain on your wrists the previous model. Maybe is because there are slight to the seat dimensions and the peg/bar but whatever it is it just feel and you are instantly ready for the off.

Out on the open road it doesn’t long to realise that the engine is truly amazing, it has power and more power everywhere! The way the 999 rides and it’s to rev is just amazing. When you of a V-Twin you would not normally it being able to spin up a 4 cyl motor, yet the 999 does just it will get to high revs in a second and deliver you the most acceleration without any fuss or at all.

This bike is not a queen like some superbikes, it delivers all the power down to the ground in a turbine way, no fuss, no bother, fantastic traction and serious no matter what type of you are on! Compared to the previous 999 when you the peak power at 9000rpm the 05 is still raring to go on whereas the old felt a bit gaspy at this and wanted you to change gear, but no so now as you go on to hit the rev limiter in almost evey

Ride the new 999 out on the open road and you very soon find out why Ducati win most things are to win, I would go on to say that I think that no other top superbike stands a chance of up with this motorcycle normal road conditions a good rider on board. with the power defficiency some Japanese bikes the power delivery, the way it puts it onto the road and the supreme of the 999 makes this bike a to ride. The 999 goes around like you would not believe, a foot wrong and it goes where you put it, you can even correct mid and it won’t make a fuss, no so other so called superbikes!

The 999 for 2005 is an absolute gem, has made changes to this that takes it into the of the true race bike for the yet it is a useable bike in town and in The clutch now seems lighter and the are just as good as they always been, which in means fantastic!

Perfectionists may more but in all honesty the std 999 offers you about the best platform to do you want on road or track. If you feel the need there is the new 999R with an amazing and weighing in at 181kg. It is a true with an all new engine and dripping in fibre and titanium.

The 999R is a true race and comes with Marchesini carbon fairing etc, The 999R is the most powerful twin in the world but it does almost twice as much as the std so is this an option? The standard 999 give you as much performance as you can handle, and in honesty I would say any other variants are purely for the track or for collectors.

In conclusion the new 999 entry level bike is as good as it gets, I certainly love to be the proud owner of one of and I’m sure that are many more like me to the success of this true Diva!
