The 2006 Ducati 999 holds a place of honor in the Italian companys legacy of sportbikes. Introduced in 2003, the Nine-nine-nine is a multi-race winning superbike, with wins in the 2003, 2004, and 2006 Superbike World Championships. Designed by leading South African bike designer, Pierre Terblanche, Ducatis 999 is as stunning to behold as it is exciting to ride.

The power behind the Ducati 999s rapid rise to fame comes courtesy of its 998cc, L-Twin, Testastretta desmodromic engine. Capable of 140 horsepower at 9750 rpm and 80.3 lb-ft of torque at 8000 rpm, the Ducati 999 offers the most power ever featured on a bike built on Ducatis famous tubular trellis frame. The compact design of Ducatis Testastretta engine enables the 999 to be graced with a body thats surprisingly narrow and agile.

The 2006 Ducati 999 has a bristling six-speed gearbox with a dry multi-plate clutch with hydraulic control. Coupled with the Italian bike manufacturers favorite Marelli electronic fuel injection system with 54mm throttle body, the transmission ensures smooth shifting and instant power delivery to the rear wheel, for spot-on responsiveness that leaves its competition reeling with envy.

Braking and handling on the 2006 Ducati 999 are exceptional. The bike comes with dual 320mm Brembo steel front brake discs and a solo 240mm rear brake disc. The discs were reduced in thickness, from 5mm to 4.5mm, to help improve handling and reduce unsprung weight.

The front brakes are also positioned farther outboard to help improve the cooling efficiency of the braking system. Suspension is handled by Showa on the front and rear of the bike, with the front inverted fork featuring TiN slider coating for improved handling and greater performance. As a side note, the rear suspension on the Ducati 999S is made by Ohlins.

Ducatis 999 series is available in four sub-models – the Base, the 999S, the 999R, and the 999R Xerox. The 999R and 999R Xerox feature slightly more powerful engines and alternate finishes, but otherwise, they are the same in style and function as the other models. All four sub-models, however, boast Ducatis impeccable stylish design and unique dual vertical headlight system.

The bikes exterior is sharp, refined, and quintessentially Italian.

The 2006 Ducati 999 is one of the most rider-friendly sportbikes made by the Italian company. Featuring fully adjustable footrest positions, a variable rake steering head, and adjustable levers, the Ducati 999 can be customized to accommodate any type or size of rider.
