Hypermotard Impressions: On the Road

My “Hyper” day at the Ascari Race Resort in Spain, but before attacking the I was tasked with testing the Hypermotard through 45 miles of twisty secondary roads.

Near-freezing ambient temperatures caution when it came to (especially follwoing a fellow lowside wreck during a pass), but what becomes clear after swinging a leg is the tall 33.5 inch height (which can be reduced to inches with an optional seat), and the dirtbike-like view its minimalist controls. While the position isn’t nearly as and forward as it is on the old Hypermotard, the new bike exactly soft or sofa-like, you still sit rather tall on the and its scooped shape makes it to scoot further back on the to stretch out.

Unlike its air-cooled predecessor—in the big-bore 1100 EVO version. the new pulls away from with far more driveline and less low RPM chugging, thanks in to its smaller cylinders and heavier The new powerplant pulls strongly a nice progression of torque and a punch in its higher registers, all the way to its power at 9,250 rpm.

since the new liquid-cooled engine 11 fewer lb-ft of torque its predecessor and has a longer wheelbase, the end is far less prone to rising it still can manage some with just the right of clutch and throttle inputs.) changes occur effortlessly, to a light (yet non-hydraulic) lever and smooth yet slightly shifter action. But the most part of the Hypermotard riding is the ease with which you can its 436 pounds into corners.

Turn-in is almost instant, and the bike where you want it barely any muscle, thanks to the light mass and crisply suspension— which, under frigid conditions, made it stiffer than it might on a warmer day. Unlike the model, the new Hyper’s lazier angle and lengthier wheelbase it less sensitive to steering and slower to turn—but there’s plenty of liveliness while it around corners, and the added becomes welcome on high stretches.

Braking is effective on the road, and will be happy to know ABS can be switched completely off. noteworthy is the fact that the electronics interface is now easier to thanks to the bigger multifunction which incorporates a bar style LCD and a dot matrix display. As for comfort, my test only covered 45 and was interrupted with several stops, so it’s hard to say how it fare over longer the saddle may have been enough that morning, but is not comfortable enough for an all-day a duty better suited for the touring oriented Hyperstrada .
