RideApart Review: 2013 Hyperstrada

A few weeks ago, I about how the all-new Ducati SP (an upgraded version of the new Ducati became my favorite bike. My problem with it was taking it out of its and trying to do long stints on the The new Ducati Hyperstrada is aimed at just that problem, by the Ducati Hypermotard package and a windscreen, side bags, and a different seat.

So how does it up?

What’s New

Ok, so I already went how the Ducati Hypermotard platform is at length in my review of the Ducati SP. So take a sec, go read first, then come Pretty much everything is the including the riding modes, and all-new 821cc engine.

So were we? Ah yes, the Strada

The Hyper Strada gets a new The seat is now wider, with padding for both the rider and the and sits a little flatter, less into the tank. In to the seat, they’ve also pillion grab handles someone be brave enough to hop on the

The Hyper Strada also a small touring windscreen, as as two quickly detachable side They will hold 50 of your precious cargo should that not be enough, you can an additional 31-liter top case.

The have been raised by inches to further increase comfort, and Ducati has included a stand, as well as extended mud and a sump guard.

As with the Stradas, Ducati has included two 12volt power outlets for all of onboard charging needs.

I have a confession to make. I had a ________ Strada and was not able to it on a trip. I know, it’s embarrassing to admit but, my best efforts, I just make it happen.

Before you out on me, this doesn’t mean I take it on long rides, it means I don’t have the adventure you were all expecting to about.

I did, however, the bike all over southern as is the life of a motorcycle journalist. in Los Angeles and then Orange and carting my girlfriend around to 4th of parties from Balboa to Malibu to Los Feliz kept me busy. I used the panniers than a few times to carry from just my laptop to a few clothes and my forever-present battery .

The seat is absolutely fantastic. It toward the tank less means it doesn’t squish manly bits all the time, and a tad wider so it spreads your more evenly through … so you can sit longer. It felt it fit better from the second I sat on it after having problems numerous Ducati seats, I was to know either A) they working on it or B) maybe I just got but at least I didn’t have to off all Ducatis as being horrendously on your posterior.

The windscreen, as is fantastic. It’s actually small and unobtrusive in person, yet to deflect just enough air from your chest it doesn’t create the same I had from riding the Hypermotard SP on the I did notice that it affected helmets differently, creating buffeting with my new Schuberth C3 while having no issues at all my Bell RS-1.

For the life of me, I can’t come up why it affected the one and not the other, especially the Schuberth is better on most

The side bags are good for a few things, but their awkward and size keep them being very useful for any touring. When I loaded the down with all my camping I filled the side bags clothes and random odds and and then used the wider created by the seat and bags to my camping gear to. For those of you I said I didn’t take the Strada on any epic adventures, I got a about 6 minutes after down bike that the of the guys had bailed from the trip we had planned to make up for a friend bailing on the trip we the week prior.

As with the entire Hypermotard this bike is incredibly It’s light, it’s the fueling is good, the engine is the gas mileage is great, and the bike is beautiful.

The changes Ducati made really help this bike more at higher speeds. The slight in the bars paired with the flatter, and thicker seat and give you just the advantage you in combating the wind normally on big super moto/…/street destroyer

As on the 1,200cc Diavel, Multistrada and Hypermotard, the Testastretta 11 motor’s service intervals make Ducatis you can actually live

The Ducati Hyperstrada doesn’t like it has the same athletic as the Hypermotard SP we just rode. of this is due to the Hyper Strada not the same upgraded components as the SP, but part is because of the slight to the bars and seat. The riding is still good, but it’s lot that bit of edge that “push me harder.”
