A Look at the Ducati Superbike Desmosedici RR

Ducati Motorcycles is well-known for their production of sports bikes. The company is once again generating a buzz with their recent release of the Desmosedici RR. Inspired by the 990cc GP6 MotoGP racing bike, this superbike designed for the street will make your bank account $72,500 lighter.

The Desmosedici RR is equipped with a powerful 989cc four-cylinder D16RR engine. In its racing configuration, the engine can deliver an impressive 200HP at 13,800. At 10,500 RPM, it will deliver a torque of 11.8 kgm. Engine components are designed to deliver superior strength at a fraction of the weight. The cylinder heads and crankcase are constructed of sand-cast aluminum.

Sand-cast magnesium is used to construct the alternator casing and cam-drive cover.

The Desmosedici RR features a multifunction dashboard capable of presenting up to six values on screen at a time. The dashboard is free of buttons and switches. Instead, you scroll and select menus on the dashboard using the switch gear located on the handlebar.

Thanks to the superbike’s superior aerodynamic design, the RR has excellent handling capabilities and superior speed. The frame is constructed of welded tubular steel due to its excellent strength-to-weight ratio. The rear seat support is attached to the frame using carbon fiber, known for its lightweight.

The wheels of the Desmosedici RR are made using machine magnesium alloy. Just like the GP6 racing bike, the wheels have a 7-spoke design which helps to improve handling and reduce inertia. Ducati partnered with Bridgestone to develop special tires with a unique profile and tread pattern.

The front suspension features 43mm Ohlins pressurized forks which can be adjusted for preload, rebound, and compression. The rear shock, which is also made from Ohlins, can also be adjusted for preload, rebound, and low/high speed compression.

With such a powerful engine, you’ll need a good set of brakes. The two front Brembo brakes are semi-floating 330mm x 5mm disc brakes. The rear brakes is constructed from a 240mm fixed disc.

The calipers, with two 34mm pistons, feature monoblock technology which allows the stiffness of the caliper to be increased in order to improve the response of the brakes.

The Desmosedici RR is already being called one of the greatest bikes of all time. Ducati did an excellent job transforming the GP6 MotoGP racing bike into a road-ready design. If you have $72,500 lying around, you won’t regret purchasing this superbike.

Ducati backs the Desmosedici RR with a three-year warranty complete with three years of free scheduled maintenance.
