The 900 SS was a motorcycle model of the Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati.

The first 900 SS was a classical author with king wave engine, which had come out from the Ducati 750 GT. End of the 1980er tried Ducati to animate the name again by from the 750 sport developed model with Nockenwellenantrieb over toothed belts. Due to the susceptible carburetors of weber and the very hard chassis the sales impact was however only moderate.

With in year 1991 the met large marketing decisions with Cagiva/Ducati this changed fundamentally. One separated from suppliers with problems in quality and oriented themselves to Japan. The 1991 offered models were technically seen a jump forward.

Japanese electrical connection and ignition systems of Kokusan, as well as likewise Japanese spring elements of Showa guaranteed a high quality level. All Ducati SS models were equipped starting from 1991 with two 38er Mikuni carburetors. Seating position and chassis were absolutely everyday life suited. Only the knappe steering angle had remained. The machine is equipped with a lining, double disk brake as well as a completely adjustable Upside down fork and an oil cooler.

Transmissions and clutch originated from the 851-Reihe, which improved the adjustableness. The rattling, Mehrscheiben-Trockenkupplung difficult to operate and wear-joyful becomes particularly estimated from many drivers because of the compromiseless running technology. The air/oil-cooled cylinders were supplied by outside lying risers with refreshing oil. The white framework and identical wheels resulted in a remarkable contrast for red or black lacquer finish.

Like all Ducatis also the 900SS has a desmodromische valve gear.

The new optics in connection with good road performances led to the fact that the model in large numbers of items was set off and to the best seller developed.

The machine was built first only with full lining, later also with half shell. The version Superlight was easily weight-reduced and equipped with a one-man peak seat as well as a brake torque support at the rear wheel.

Over the years there were some smaller model care measures (materials alteration of the cylinder staybolts, improved piston rings, exhaust valve guidance in bronze brass, carburetor heating, strengthened rear wheel rocker, transferred oil cooler, cowls, oil thermometers, optimized crankshaft housing ventilation valve, larger front wheel oh diameter, clutch and brake pump with external tanks ventilated). The engine performs its service also identically constructed in the Ducati monster (900 ccm). 1998 those supersport replaced by the model 900 SSi.e with fuel injection engine.

The machine is also today still extremely likes. There is various accessories, with which the motorcycle can be individualized and revalued.
