Arete Americana – Ducati 999 CF

This orgasmic carbon fiber Ducati 999 was built by Bryan Petersen of Arete Americana, from Keyport, New Jersey. Bryan’s company is the North American distributor for RADical Ducati Parts. This Ducati 999 has gone through about 12 months of blood, sweat and tears to become this unique masterpiece.

I can only imagine how nimble this beast truly is, and how it looks up close as these pictures don’t do it justice. This is artwork in my opinion. This is that one bike that you would proudly display in your living room.

As one of my readers said – “This is what the 999 should’ve looked like, not the nightmare that Terblanche created” – and that can be debatable, as we all know there are two types of fans of the Ducati 999/749 those that hate it and the ones that kind of like it.

This Ducati 999 received  a set of Ducati Performance F04 Carbon Fiber fairings which were modified to accept a pair of BMW M3 marker lights shaved down and molded in to replace the stock mirror mounted front blinkers. For the front suspension Bryan went with the newest Ohlins FGRT210 30mm forks that we coated in black on black and gold with the Ohlins ghosted in.

For the rear suspension, the 999 received an Ohlins Ducati 1098s model rear shock which was coated in black with a matt grey spring that was stamped with an AreteAmericana shop name, ghosted gold Ohlins reservoir and a black on black Ducati Performance rear ride adjuster. The spring stamp is the only place on the bike where the shop name is displayed and it’s very subtle.

To help stop this beast Bryan decided to go with a set of Brembo 32/36 billet machined 100mm monoblock radial calipers sitting around a set of HP race rotors upfront and a 34mm billet machined endurance rear caliper w/custom mount and HP race rotor at the back. To help stabilize this Ducati 999 from head shakes, a TOBY steering Damper with Ultra Matte Black triples and Ti steering head nut was chosen to do the job. To complete the desired look of the 999 a Ducati 848 rear swing arm and a set of aluminum forged Marchesini wheels where the right choice in this build.

The engine was not heavily modified as the 999 has plenty to offer in its stock configuration. However a Yoyodyne slipper clutch was installed with a Rizoma clutch cover, powder coated triple bronze to match the machined case cover. To further bring down the weight of the 999 Bryan changed all the nuts and bolts with titanium hardware.

There is also a pair of Rizoma foot pegs, a chain cover color matched to the triple bronze case covers with a titanium swingarm pivot, shifter bolt, engine studs, rear sets bolts. The exhaust is a stainless 57mm 1-off exhaust with a SLR style outlet, both pipes are individual for front and rear heads.

At the rear a one-piece self supporting carbon mono tail/sub-frame was manufactured with a molded tail and brake light having the rear blinkers hiden 1mm under the rear carbon plates. Mated to the one off carbon fiber sub-frame is a custom made carbon seat pan with leather and suede double stitched seat held down by 8 custom made, color matched grommets. The seat was built by Lux Motorwerks and it is quite beautiful.

The carbon fiber tank is a Radical Ducati piece wich definitely feels at home on this build. I can pretty much go on forever with the built quality and the parts that went on this build, however I will let you enjoy the pictures and let you know that his bike is for sale thought Lux Motorwerks, that is if it hasn’t sold already.
