Ducati Hypermotard

[ edit ]

There had been for some time that would produce a Supermotard bike, which was a growing of the market mostly catered-for by the of KTM and Husqvarna. The unveiling of the Hypermotard was via a dedicated mini-site, linked-to the main Ducati website in 2006. This apparently outages of the whole Ducati such was the interest in this motorcycle.

The mini-site asked to complete an online survey their opinion on the Hypermotard, as as offering the opportunity to vote on such as engine size, and favourite features. The bike was in concept form at the time and was not guaranteed, but a subsequent post to the Blog of then Ducati CEO Minoli on 31 March 2006, [ 1 ] that it would indeed go production and also gave details of the survey results.

Very few changes were to the prototype to create the first version, and quirky features as the ‘duck bill’ front and handguards incorporating LED indicators/ mirrors made it to the final Later blog entries some of the concept drawings and are incredibly close to the finished

In 2008, Greg Tracy won the Pro Class Division of the Pikes International Hill Climb on a 1100S. It was the first Hypermotard to win an competition and the first Ducati to win at the Peak since the race in 1916.

Ducati Hypermotard 1100

The first 2007 Hypermotard was in two configurations: the base ‘1100’ and the higher specification ‘1100S’ The more expensive 1100S a durable low friction diamond-like (DLC) black coating to the fork sliders, an Öhlins reservoir rear shock, the Brembo Monobloc brake used on the 1098. lighter aluminium Marchesini wheels a red pin-stripe, Pirelli tires, carbon fibre fork timing belt covers, mudguard/ fender and tail/ side panels. These made for a 2kg (4.5lb) weight 177kg (390lbs) versus (395lbs) for the base model.

The remained virtually the same for however the 1100S model 48mm Kayaba forks DLC coating) to replace the 50mm items, while lower-spec forks continued to be offered on the model. Also, for 2009 the 1100S came with Ducati’s DDA data-logging device and software.

For 2010, the Hypermotard 1100 has changed enough for the two models to new names reflecting the fact the bike has ‘evolved’. The 1100 Evo and the expensive 1100 Evo SP feature a engine which is no longer Spark and has Siemens fuel in place of the previous models’ system. The higher-compression engine is to give 5bhp (3.9kW) outputting 95bhp (69.9kW) at a lower engine speed of

Torque is fractionally lower it was before at 75.9lb-ft (10.5kgm), but torque appears 1,000rpm in the rev range at 5750rpm, which say allows owners to hang-on to for longer. A new oil cooler has been with 85% more cooling than before. The final gearing has also changed 15/42 to 15/41.

The Evo features 50mm Marzocchi and a Sachs rear shock, but the Evo SP specially developed (1.2) 50mm Marzocchi forks with an Ohlins rear The colour of the fork stanchions on models is now black, the Evo SP also a black DLC coating to the lower section. The Evo SP has a seat height of (34.4in) and is deliberately the taller because Ducati say that were asking for more clearance.

The Evo, and all previous 1100 models, has a seat of 845mm (33.3in). To complement the ride height of the Evo SP, it features that sit 20mm higher those on the base model. The unit is now similar to that to the Ducati Streetfighter. with backlighting.

The 2010 Hypermotard bikes are both considerably than before, mainly due to the engine casings, lighter flywheel and alternator, but the rear has also been redesigned and bikes carry some fibre. The Evo SP gets the full of carbon fibre, as the ‘S’ before it, but a rear hugger is now on the SP.

The Evo model weighs 172kg versus 171kg (377lbs) for the Evo SP, the cast alloy wheels the difference. The Evo has Pirelli Diablo tyres and the Evo SP has Pirelli Diablo SP. As with last year’s expensive model, the SP comes Ducati’s DDA device/ software.
