Built during I tend to think of as Ducati’s to Harley’s “AMF period” it was on a Pantah motor and was at the time, the to a question nobody asked.  at one and the logical conclusion is that it was designed for the cruiser market the DNA link to the Diavel.  This is not the  Introduced in 1987, the Indiana its way off the production line sent out to a market that just there.

Produced in low numbers in three configurations (750/650/350) and only for 2 model years, they managed to stack up on dealer There really is just about it off balance, to my eyes the just isn’t “Ducati-like”. are kind of cool but. what would you DO with it?

SS – The beauty is in the details

That was the posed to Tony Prust of Motorcycles when he got an email out of the about putting his unique on one.  The back-story was that a original Indiana had been to a collector but the bike had been in transit and was no longer “original” and now for a project build. It got sold there to it’s current Del Thomas, who had sent it to a shop mostly worked on cars.

That shop had envisioned a style design which coming out to the owners satisfaction. Analog Motorcycles, named in of the simpler version of musical with a similar philosophy it comes to motorcycle design.  For bike Tony had a vision.

things to go were the plans for controls and Triumph shorty “I wanted the people who know to recognize that it was an Indiana” he “On the other hand, not many know what they are or Ducati ever came up a Cruiser before the Diavel”. “I this the IndySS because the was inspired by the early 900SS and blue paint theme, in the stripes”.

When asked what the bike now fits in Tony there really wasn’t He likes to mix and match. When he said “Bobber muscle maybe?”  The one thing he did was that he wanted it to handle a Ducati so the first set of business was to a set of Gazi Sport Lite rear shocks, then the front end to give it “proper

Next, he said, get to what Motorcycles considers it’s design strength – identify it doesn’t need and get rid of it. Then or simplify what it does  So the big ugly gauges were – no more tach, speedo and the bulky old school Brembo cylinder were replaced by and stylish radial Magura

Next he cut the frame behind the shock mounts leaving the tail section suspended by the pan, one piece, no sub-frame. panels were replaced perforated aluminum, powder black. And all covers (clutch, belt, valve, cam and were removed, stripped of the chrome and powder coated black.

Mechanically the motor stock, tuned in the capable of TJ from Ducati Milwaukee, who to just getting the bike to safe to rev specs, which mainly of new belts, seals, and a adjustment.

Seeing the IndySS in and knowing what it started as, I am struck by how close Ducati to really having something on their hands.  It’s from a distance are classic Yamaha VMax. And while can see much of the original bike has changed, what’s most is how much wasn’t.

This is still clearly a Ducati Indiana, which might argue was Ducati’s Ducling. Of course in the fairy the homely little bird abuse from all around him much to his delight (and to the of others), he matures into a swan. My guess is if the IndySS talk it might tell a tale…
