Multistrada 1200 on Tour – Mode

Ducati News has tested the Ducati Multistrada before but we wanted to put the many machine to a real test. well does it really with the different demands of of its 4 modes – commuting, touring and riding?  We decided to take it on a long tour of some of the roads in New Zealand along (mostly) Ducati mounted to find out.

 The Multistrada made a good of commuting. now we go on tour and see how she performs on the road.

You know the best about the Ducati Multistrada when you need to cover ground?  The fuel  Unlike almost every Ducati model, the multi has a sized tank which combined with pretty fuel economy means you can the miles out when you need or to.

 We saw a best of 18km/l (42mpg) was enough to deliver a 320km mile) range.

With time in the saddle the bike comfortable for 4 hours or more stopping for gas.  We would liked to have been to move around more in the but the step for the passenger section the rider is pretty much in place.  Although this annoyed during the trip it seem to effect comfort much but did impede on control we started to turn up the wick in mode which we cover in installment.

At highway speeds the adjustable provided good chest but came with a bunch of noise that soon frustrating.  I was beginning to think my new was a waste of money until I standing on the pegs and basked in the silence once out of the turbulent  Your mileage will no vary depending on your but for our 6’3″ frame there was no setting in the range that reduced noise so we left it at the setting most of the time.

I know I am pretty much a of one when it comes to the need for and use of different modes and of course you have to use them but they do to a massive increase in electronic  Over the course of a week or so a of funny electronic gremlins none of them serious but all a concerning.  Sometimes the fuel would come on when were 3 bars remaining of two) and then mysteriously go out many miles later.

One aspect of the electronics I really was the keyless ignition system.  As as you keep the key near the bike (in pocket or in a bag) you can lock and the forks, turn on the ignition and the engine.  This was a real but it quickly had me wanting for more.

 Ducati how about allowing the gas to be opened in a similar way and for the luggage to be and locked with a key. for fuel and then fumbling to the key seemed like too much (a very first world I admit).

As for handling it was solid and pitching into the mostly turns with little from the wide bars, very neutrally and maintaining its without need for correction. brakes although not as strong as the blocs Ducati uses for applications were nevertheless enough but seemed to combine a lack of feel with initial bite despite a fair hard squeeze to full breaking power.

 To be a large part of the feel is due to the pretty soft and long suspension that makes the so plush when on tour. bottom-line is the brakes will get you plenty fast enough but are not at the of performance of the Superbike range. back brake, like on Multistrada 1200s, seemed to its own special ABS.

The Ducati side luggage bags were good to use but had space on the right hand due to the need for a cutout and heat to protect your belongings exhaust heat.  They leaked a little bit in rain so sure your clothes are plastic bags!

Overall the Multistrada 1200 is a typically take on what a touring should be like, emphasizing you don’t have to forgo in terms of both handling and to cover a lot of ground in comfort taking your belongings you.  It is this cake and eat it too that is so appealing.  The 1200 was as enjoyable to ride at a pace and gaze at the scenery as it was a little harder to get there

 It was noticeable that I was always and relaxed at each stop and you couldn’t say the same thing for of my riding companions who were on decidedly more sporting motorcycles.

However the hardest test is yet to  Having traveled to some of the twisty roads you can find how the Multistrada 1200 handle the pace of a bunch of ex road on Ducati sports bikes.  In will I keep up?  Find out in the installment when we’ll get the Multistrada 1200 into the chasing some fast on much sportier equipment.
