I’m sure a few of you have that this year has a few Ducatis in the Sound of Thunder all but one of the Ducati mounted riders this year had attended a only track day last at Pembrey organised by Merlin Cardiff.

As track days get a bit heated in the afternoons, this one was no and ended up as a race. A mutual had been established between a of Ducati owners. After 4 days last year I to take the plunge and apply for my licence and thought that Circuit would be a good track, all of the lads I had met at the track day down to watch and the last of 99 saw four of us on the start line at Pembrey.

As I come from an Engineering and have spent all of my working fiddling with cars and it would only be natural to get to the workings of the bike I like to So during the closed season, the 748 I out of the showroom four and a half previous had been turned what its makers had originally it to do, that was to be raced.

Because I had the machine for a long while I got to it quite well, almost to when the stand was going to off again or when the belts tightening, this knowledge useful when you try to get reliability out of an Ducati.

If any one out there has done some road miles on a Ducati, you have experienced a few problems the way, you know they can be things, they call it in character I think.

So what if you the living daylights out of it week week at the racetrack, do you really it will last very Most of you will say I don’t ask a Ducati owner and he will probably tell you to buy something Japan. I would say, if you can the loan repayments, buying the is the easy bit, keeping it is the hard part and the racing is the fun

Now these things are certainly not the bikes on the track, they are noisy, they vibrate, grate and rattle, They cut out it rains, the clutches burn the rectifiers blow up and can catch the timing belts snap and the smash into the pistons, the brake pumps itself up the back wheel up, the clutch hub nut loose, the cush drive breaks up and eats away at the arm, the timing idler nut comes loose and breaks up, The nut vibrates loose and destroys the the gearbox can have up to 3 neutrals, slave cylinders would be suited to a pushbike, front retainer wears out and the sprocket off, the hard chrome on the arms is made of tin foil, the creates so much condensation after a meeting the water in my tank

can be used to wash the bike with and nuts and bolts off if not locktited on.

This is most probably a portion of what has gone in the last five years and the real reason for keeping the is to see what is going to go wrong

With my experience of ownership and history of road racing, I say to anybody, if you intend to race one of things, be prepared to spend hours in the workshop before and a race meeting, have a plan of maintenance and stick to it, you will definitely experience all or more of the problems listed
