The Keihin FCR carburetor FAQ.

How the do you say Keihin? Most folks say key

Do I want 39mm carbs or 900SSs get 41mm carbs. get 39s. You can put 39s on your 900SS but if you start really trying to get from your motor, need the 41s.

Sudco, the US of the carbs and who assembles the kits, they sell 4 or 5 41 kits for 39 kit. Also, the 750SS that Sudco was developing kits on ended up running Switching from 39s to 41s got them a few hp on top and added slightly to mid range

Some shops and Ducati will say that FCR41s belong on a 900SS. Well. if are your only local and you might need to turn to for help, then you’d get the 39s. Why?

If you turn to and you’ve got 41s, with closed mind, they not be able or willing to make the 41s right.

Consumer Alert:

Ca customers have warned some special deals on the for what would appear to be a FCR kit, when said are without instructions, throttle, or (and at least once the adaptors, too!) This another $80

$160 of parts to properly these incomplete kits. All FCR sold by Ca Cycleworks are shipped with carbs, cables, spigots, airbox adaptors, and air filter. All Cycleworks FCR kits are to ensure the proper baseline For those who purchase incomplete used or from other Cycleworks can supply you with the you need: proper replacement shown below, copies of instructions, and Ca Cycleworks install

Note that when FCRs from private or from eBay, you may need to manifold adaptors, calbes, or adding expense to the purchase.

about midrange? I’ve that FCRs kill When referring to Ducatis, is misinformation . The whole reason this wives tale about is from when were first introduced on the US and people put them on GSXRs and 4 cylinder Japanese bikes.

of calculating the best size for application, they’d put 39s or 41s on a street 750 when 35s are appropriate!

Gas laws say that the larger the the less velocity with an airflow. Engine tuners that less velocity less torque. The reason for aftermarket racing carbs is to allow for more velocity at RPM with throats much than most OEM carbs.

The heads and same rpms that the airflow would be the same and the reasoning that the so dramatically harm velocity and on a 900SS are totally ignoring the tract, valves, and cylinder A Ducati 904cc V-Twin has with insane … and displacement each, while a 4 cyl 750 has cylinders with terribly strokes. Further, the Japanese 4 also have more area with their 4 per cylinder heads.

The Ducati has displacement AND less valve meaning that the velocity the intake tract remains and the 900’s great midrange is amplified by FCRs.

I’ve put FCR 41s on stock 900s and was able to in second gear at 40mph at rpm. You need a 39T rear for that trick. And when the pass 5 grand, you have to out of the throttle so you don’t flip

Having a lightened flywheel 2nd gear wheelies.

Actual e-mail! Will I get tickets? Oh you will. Consider this warning, cuz you won’t get one from the Sorry, Cycleworks won’t your legal defense, take the $$$ you save from here and save it now. -)

I the kit but already have a KN air filter, can I it and get a discount? Yes, I’ll a $18 credit to delete the filter the kit. In order to get this you must add the Delete KN filter kit n/a DU-0900 $-18 item to shopping cart at California I previously had all FCR kits drop directly to the customer, but sometimes / Sudco are not setting them to own specs!

Now, all carb ship to me for calibration then ship to you.

If I got canisters and the carb kit, the carbs be jetted already? yes. Since the carbs slightly rich (an appropriate setting), a few hp can be found with dyno tuning. You may not feel it though, as dyno tuning help torque too much it’s already a lot higher before.

You get the big grins from all of the torque. If you want to diddle your carbs, here’s a tuning guide. A lot of useful info is also in Sudco’s needle selection 151k graphs 110k and slow air chart 135k .

Please that if you ARE going to diddle your FCRs, keep two in mind. 1) RPM is meaningless. As shown in the each circuit in the carburetor is throttle position.

2) You’ll feel if the carbs are jetted too You can pour enough fuel the bike to make 110 hp and it’ll almost as good as with jetting. But, go and make it too and it’ll feel like hit the kill switch.

Example: if the needles are too lean for 1/4 delivery, you’ll be toting at a steady speed at 1/8 throttle and it some gas to speed up and it’s someone literally hit the kill Then as you give it more you climb out of 1/4 throttle and hit the 1/2 throttle where the main jet starts out the needle and BAM you’ve got massive

I’ve got what I call the rule. 70% of the people I sell kits to bolt the carbs on bike and wheely into the with a maniacal giggle to touch their carbs 20% of the people will love the power but want to diddle with the fuel screw or air screw to get idle just Note that these two are easy to get to. The last 10% of FCR buyers all fubar’ed.

They can see the potential for the but something just isn’t They just need to their carbs to a local with a dyno and pay them to the bike and the carbs play nicely.

The only modifications that I seen to require rejetting been polishing the ports in the and the Staintune spaghetti system. not sure if going to a 944 or 984 kit will rejetting, but suspect it would. The mufflers flow as good as any on the market while still to the stock header.

The stock is so restrictive that the performance mufflers is almost evened
