According to John, the 860 GTS was a styling for the Ducati faithful after the 750 and Mechanically sound but simply wrong with too much and a boring look. John a rather undistinguished 860 and decided to it up for daily riding duties, it a little head down single seat, clean and a black and polished metal

The result is a nice example of many owners could do a bit of time and effort.

John took the Duc down to the stripped the frame and swingarm and or polished as needed. He chopped the grab rail and subframe for the old and rewelded the necessary pieces for the new seat.

He detabbed the frame, up the factory welds and added with Dzus fasteners for the new

He found a set of Akront alloy rims with stainless spokes and polished up the rear hub. He polished and swapped the and right fork legs to the calipers to the rear. John the rubber gaiters and installed new caps.

He cut off the handlebar top mounting brackets, TIG the bolt holes, sanded and the yokes and cleaned up left casting marks. He installed adjustable clipons to get the right He made a new mounting bracket for the from 2mm aluminum.

New alloy brackets lowered the light.

The 860 had handlebar controls, so John put in the trash, finding some alloy British bits on which polished up nicely.

He was to replace the tank but found the actually looked better some replacements he considered so piece survived the restyle.

He the somewhat ratty and less totally stock harness. The had already been removed by a owner and since it was known to be a spot, he kept it kick only and finds it to be easy and free. The battery is a heavy unit from a Buell it’s all black, fits and has lots of grunt should ever decide to reinstall an starter.

A light engine clean up, Ducati green fuel and a good tune up were the sum done in the engine area. more was needed since it great.

Tarozzi adjustable footpegs were installed to John a little more

When you look at the finished unless someone runs the list of what John you might miss a lot of it, it’s subtle but very well The end result is one of those bikes catches your eye because seems to fit together. Nice John!
