The Classic and Custom Japanese Motorcycle Club Spectacular

The CCJMC (Classic Custom Japanese Motorcycle Club ) Spectacular is an annual event held by a bunch of dedicated enthusiasts. HT again to my buddy Wombat for pointing my attention their way as it was a near perfect sunny 32 degree day on the green surrounded by multitudes of motorcycles and enthusiasts. Perfect Sunday outing in my book.

Now I don’t really know much about this club or their events, yet they are now firmly on my radar and have set my head spinning into the land of ‘project bikes’ once again.

So that’s exactly what I think this smallish club is all about, mad men and women obsessed with custom mods, cafe racers, choppers and bobbers and just about everything in between.

There were easy upwards of 50 bikes on show, more in the car park, and it was just excellent walking around checking out the handiwork.

Some were full blown mega hundreds of thousands of dollars of hand fabricated full on bling choppers…

Others were custom bikes you don’t see every day.

of course there were even a few mint older Ducatis

plus a wicked Dirt Tracker converted out of an old Honda CB summink…I wanted to steal this one.

But my ‘bike of the day’ went to this Kawasaki ZXR 900 chopped up thing of manic excellence.

Just amazing – so many custom parts, the headlights, the tail, the bars, not a thing left in sight that looked ZXR. The tail had been fully chopped into a Dragster

and the dash was so minimalist yet futuristic looking, I kept going back to look and look and look some more.

And this crazy Streetfighter too, completely excellent custom work.

I’d love to do something like this, something different to an old Jap bike. After all I cut my teeth on an RGV 250 and progressed to a GSX R750 with custom paint and no stickers, and I’m always changing bits on my bikes to make them look how I think they should – so I guess it’s kinda in my blood to want to do this.

Oh, and I think I’m hooked on bike shows. There is another show on in a couple of weeks time that I’m definitely going to check out called Bikes by the Bay. Can’t wait for more inspiration!

I took a heap of photos on my new phone, a Nexus 5 and must admit it didn’t do a bad job in the full sunlight so I’ve uploaded them to a Flickr set you can share because Flickr has done some weird shit lately so I’m not confident the below one will work for you.

Here we go…trying using the Back arrow first…

Had a great day on the green really, liked it so much I bought the t-shirt (grab one here if you like). I couldn’t stay for the stunt riding and bands unfortunately, but I almost witnessed a classic biker tradition – the Face Off – go ugly. Two guys were at it on the blocks arm wrestling when there was a rather audible pop as one gave way.

Popped a tendon clean off his shoulder. Ouch!
