2008 Gilera nexus 500

22nd, 2009 admin

Of all the I’ve ridden I wanted to this bike the most. up, the idea behind the Nexus is me. A sporty looking scooter reasonable power, something you can long distance and around I’m also a big fan of Gilera’s having owned various over recent years.

So I am…I’m almost pained to these words. Really not kidding. I wish I could on about the bike because I want to.

However…we decided we started this website we’d be straight up so that’s I’ll be.

Let’s get the good sorted first. If you’re modern sporty looking then the Nexus 500 is going to be the to all your prayers. Gilera done a simply superb job of the this isn’t just my here; virtually everybody who saw the loved it. Given that I the bike to a large wedding, was a lot of people. Most barely realized it was a scooter, because looks like a motorcycle.

The quality of the bike is also top walking around the bike notice the quality instantly. is about as good as scooters get it comes to fit and finish, everything is put well.

The Nexus comes fully out too. The dash is analogue and and features a trip computer lots of fun features like speed and fuel consumption. Gilera’s competitors should a long hard look at the on the Nexus as most pale in There’s a remote seat on the key fob and a fully adjustable rear to tune the suspension to your or riding preference.

The brakes are about as good as it gets in world with twin discs upfront and a single disc on the back wheel. The are also linked on the left to aid emergency stopping.

The Nexus is a reasonably nice handling it’s certainly not perfect but solid. On tight twisty it’s quite fun to ride but you can feel the bikes weight as you into corners. Ground could also be a bit better as quite easy to get the centre down while leaning Like any design it’s about compromise, do you design for or convenience?

The Nexus 500 runs a trick suspension setup does a nice job of ironing out imperfections without too much I’d like to see an even setting if possible as the softest was still a bit hard for very riders.

So the Nexus is built superbly, well in and out of town and has a vast of quality components. So what then? Why can’t I gush?

it’s the motor; it’s not powerful enough. I’ll put it in The Nexus 500 is slower than a up touring scooter like the X8 400. So speed isn’t you say. Well I know not everything but if you’re making a LOOK like a motorcycle you as *^% better make it go at least like a motorcycle.

Now ridden on its own the gets along just the 460cc engine makes 40 and gets the bike to 100kph in 9.6 However in direct comparison the 500 just doesn’t stand up. The X8 400 gets to 100kph in 8.9 seconds and is to 50kph as well. Our demo was brand new so I’m sure it improve but probably not enough to the tables.

This is just It’s like buying a and discovering that your Mondeo is faster in a straight doubt you’d buy the Ferrari if was the case.

To make matters worse we had the Honda Silver Wing for the wedding. The Honda Silver is a super sized beast of a It’s designed to mosey treating the rider to great it was faster than the Nexus Oh and not a little bit, a lot. It crushed the Nexus 500 in a straight race.

The Silver Wing hit in 8.2 seconds…a full 1.4 seconds than the Nexus. This was of a surprise because if you look at the two there’s no way you’d guess the Silver Wing was faster, with its larger 580cc The Honda also runs a cylinder engine which shows up the lumpiness of the Nexus’s

To top it off the Honda’s CVT transmission was quicker to and far more refined than the Speed isn’t everything, but you’re selling a SPORTS it’s certainly a massive of the equation.

The Nexus 500 is basically 80% it looks great, it’s amazingly well, it rides it stops well…it just a different engine and a short program. The Nexus 500 weighs in at which is about 15kg than the X8 400, it really to be the other way around. Imagine Gilera simply knock on the at Aprilia and borrow the motor out of the Shiver.

This is exactly what has with the new Gilera GP800 as it uses the engine and transmission the Aprilia Mana. The Shiver makes 95 horsepower. Can you imagine how things would be with 95

First off, you wouldn’t be this as I would have returned the bike.

Put simply it like this, if you are going to a sports scooter within distance of a 114 horsepower all singing, all 600cc sports bike you’d better at least get on performance. 40hp is not close; not even in the same state.

The ease of helmet storage and a CVT but really any rider like me who rides motorcycles is going to their wallet over to the Kawasaki/Honda/Triumph/Suzuki dealer and walk out the latest 600cc sports Some of which are only 3K expensive than the Nexus If it really has to be a scooter then the buyer is likely to take a X8 400 a Suzuki Burgman or the Honda Wing as they all have storage and are quicker too.

The is I and many others want to own a exactly like the Nexus if the Nexus made even…70 and weighed under 190kg…I’d own one in one three nanoseconds. It’s that simple. Please change the motor, talk to the at Aprilia and steal the engine the “Shiver”.

I know the Gilera GP800 is that bike and we’re much looking forward to it, but again the GP800 weighs which is about the same as a Davidson. With a different plant and subtle weight program the Gilera Nexus could be the world’s first fledge performance scooter. hoping…
