A 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager 1700 is powered by a four-stroke liquid cooled SOHC V-twin engine that produces 108 lb/ft of torque at just 2,750 RPM, giving this touring bike a nice loaping exhaust note that isn’t overpowering enough to give the rider or passenger a headache a hundred miles into the tour. The valve system for the 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager 1700 is hijacked from the Vulcan 2000 model, but uses an overhead camshaft arrangement rather than pushrods, resulting in quicker revving and better mid and high RPM power.

The Kawasaki fuel injection system utilizes technology from the Ninja 650R motorcycle, and is shared with the Vulcan 900. This system allows the 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager 1700 to be tuned with highway touring specifically in mind. The cruise control and six-speed overdrive transmission reinforce this highway touring capability, ensuring a quiet, comfortable ride across whatever state you wish to cross for the day.

Braking is handled by Kawasaki’s advanced Coactive-Braking Technology, a system which allows the brake system to automatically detect the amount of braking force being applied, and pumping additional brake fluid into the pressure control units of the 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager 1700. This system incorporates an ABS function that prevents emergency brake lock-up, also disengaging the K-ACT brake system at speeds below 12 mil awa, and disengaging the ABS system at speeds below 4 mil awa. Dual 300mm front disc brakes with four piston calipers control the front brakes, and a two-piston rear disc brake is utilized out back of the 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager 1700

A 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager 1700 is available in either of two two-tone colors, Candy Plasma Blue/Metallic Diablo Black or Metallic Titanium/ Metallic Diablo Black, both with an MSRP of $16,799. Adding ABS brakes will boost the price to $17,899. Either way, this is the most fully-optioned and most affordable long-range motorcycle on the market today.

There are a lot more expensive ways to go from New York to Seattle, but none in this price range offering the value that the 2009 Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager 1700 does.
