2011 H-D CVO

Well that time of year more, where the bikes Harley-Davison and the editors around all call the top of the food chain, the Vehicles Operations program bike line, are rolled The CVO program was established in 1999 and for the 11 years, the bikes have been getting better and

Most of you are familiar with the OE Harley lineup, but if you’re not with CVO bikes, these are the of the crop. The difference is that are a custom line of motorcycles in limited production for customers who brilliant chrome, tons of exquisite paint, and the exclusivity of and riding a special motorcycle.

The new CVO are announced before the standard OE and are pulled out of the plant for a few lucky to get a sneak-peak. This year’s CVO launch has once again set the bar for to expect from the Harley-Davidson Company. It all started once we at the Hyatt Regency Lake Resort inside Incline in Nevada.

After a brief on the bikes and a hearty breakfast, we got to put in riding miles so we could you our feelings about them and any new they may have in store.

For there are four CVO models the FLHTCUSE Ultra Classic Glide, the FLTRUSE Road Ultra, the FLHXSE Street and the FLSTSE Softail Convertible. All the CVO models are powered by the fuel-injected Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam only available from the in CVO models. The transmission features a Fifth gear in the six-speed drive transmissions.

An anti-lock system (ABS) and cruise are standard equipment on the CVOs. The are backed by a two-year, unlimited-mileage and will be limited to approximately units each, or less for models.

CVO Road Glide

MSRP $35,999 and limited to a of 3,000 units.

New this year is the Road Ultra, the one bike I have waiting for. I’m a fan of the OE Road Glide but to make it the CVO lineup was a big deal for me. It has all the cool CVO such as the 110ci motor and transmission, but the list of new features are made me want one more ever.

The Road Glide features an aerodynamic, frame-mounted that offers a lighter feel than a fork-mounted and incorporates dual headlamps and a instrument display. The Road Ultra is also equipped ventilated fairing lowers. year a new reshaped and windtunnel-tested windshield was added.

As a taller I can tell you that in the past I was beat up by the wind. Now the windshield has a angle to limit cockpit H-D also added wind that fit onto the top of the engine to redirect turbulent air that passed between the fairing and the tank and into the rider

You can still get the air to pass through, but now it more directed and less

The other thing you will is the deluxe color-matched Tour Pak carrier with LED brake/tail and Air Wing Tour Pak rack. new is the power locking system provides push-button key fob security for the Pak, saddlebags, and ignition.

It was the boom that we kept from all the H-D people when were talking about the new sound systems for ’11 CVO The Road Glide Ultra has a Harman/Kardon Advanced Audio featuring four high-performance speakers, along with in the passenger seat area, an XM radio, and a CB/intercom with two A new amplifier with customized for the new speakers gives a much sound at higher speeds.

new this year is an iPod and iPod holder located in the side saddlebag. This both charges the iPod, and it with the audio hand on the bars. If you’re without an the good thing is the Road Ultra comes with an 8GB iPod Nano with Bar Shield logo.

Making sure not to get lost, the has a Road Tech Zumo 660 GPS system with an integrated module that allows navigation commands to be heard the radio speakers as you are heading the highway. This was real as we never needed to take our off the road. One other thing was a noticed change was the seat. It has a new that is narrower towards the giving me more reach to the at stops.

The seat also dual heat controls and the backrest has adjustable lumbar Some of the other eye-catchers all the chrome pieces like the Agitator wheels, internally 1-inch-diameter handlebar, and chrome muffler end caps with spears.

The Road Glide will be offered in three color schemes, Rio Red and Black with Quartzite graphics, Slate and Black Twilight Quartzite graphics, and my favorite, Ivory and Vintage Gold Quartzite graphics. All I can say about the that I wish was different was the of time I got to spend with it; it was too short.

CVO Ultra Classic Glide

MSRP $36,499 and to a production of 1,500 units.

We got on one of the oldest bikes in the CVO lineup, the Classic Electra Glide. is the everything bike in that it has that Harley has to offer in a bike, from the big 110ci to just about every of chrome in the catalog. In the handling the ride was very nice and smooth-just what you want for a across town or the ride the country.

Once you settle down in the and crank up the radio, this was comfortable than my truck and a of a lot more fun to ride.

Being a it too comes with a 110ci motor that at 4,000 rpm out around 115 lb-ft of torque. The also has a six-gallon fuel and a four-quart oil bag. As I was riding the roads around Lake with a ground clearance of 5.1 and a lean angle of 33 degrees on the side and 31 on the left, the bike was to lean over at different The Ultra has excellent stopping especially for a bigger bike.

ABS is with a single four-piston caliper for the rear and a dual setup for the front.

Some of the cool features are the Navigation Module that provides an connection to the dash-mounted Road Zumo 660 GPS unit that GPS verbal commands to the radio as well as the 8GB Apple iPod The new hammock-style suspended seat has heaters and a springboard-style suspension in the passenger seat. One more comfort piece is the passenger-adjustable support.

The rear of the bike with a color-matched and LED-equipped Pak with integrated brake and Using LED lighting not only brighter lights, but it also up storage capacity within the Pak. For added safety, new year is the power locking and Tour Pak.

The Ultra Electra Glide is offered in Black Ember and Rio Red paint with Flame graphics, with a color-matched inner assembly, inner fairing and rear fender filler

This is a big bike coming in at 930 pounds, but out on the road it’s not the of the bike that you notice, it is how it handles for its size. The longer I was in the the more comfortable the bike All the controls, from the radio and to the GPS system, were easy to even with gloves on.

The bike was everything you’d in a touring bike; the one thing still needs a little is the heat from the motor. the lower deflector on the engine I noticed a lot of heat once we to a stoplight; however, I didn’t it when we were out on the road. The is redirected and helps get the heat out of area, but it’s still a bit hot at

Overall it is a great touring with lots of room for all gear and needs for any long

CVO Street Glide

MSRP and limited to a production of 3,700

Next up was the bike Harley The ultimate hot rod bagger, the CVO Street This bike begins the same Screamin’ Eagle Cam 110 engine and the six-speed Cruise transmission. It also has a fork-mounted fairing and stretched saddlebags. You notice though that the Pak and lowers are not there.

At a glance is not a lot of differences in these three other than the fairing or Pak; the difference comes to the style. The Street Glide seems to have slimmer maybe due to the low-profile snakeskin-style with matching passenger or the short 7-inch smoked deflector. It could be the 19-inch Agitator front wheel matching 18-inch rear Whatever it is, the bike has real lines.

The Street Glide has the high-output audio system by a new high-efficiency, 100-watt-per-channel amplifier. The system also incorporates the Nano with dock and located in the right saddlebag.

New year is the side-fill gas tank flush-mount cap and LED gauge, and a new low-profile But it’s the paint schemes make you really notice the The new paint is offered in four color combinations, Kryptonite and Diamond, Black Diamond and Orange, Autumn Haze and Gunstock, and Black Diamond Crimson Tag graphics. The CVO Street is a different bike from the in its own right, not just on looks but the way it handles.

It is light and not clumsy. At low speeds moving around the parking it was easy to handle, and out on the road at speeds, it was smooth. Not until I down to see the speedo, at 80 mph, did I I was not just passing cars but like flying by them.

At one I needed to test out the ABS (damn drivers) and with a small of brake pulsing at the lever, the handled very well. this bike to the Road Ultra and this would be my choice.

CVO Softail Convertible

$29,599 and limited to a production of units.

Last in the lineup and for its second year is the Softail It may not be the bike you think about in the of touring, but that is what it is to do. Based on the Harley-Davidson Softail the Convertible features a rear-suspension to look like a vintage frame, but offers the comfort of a suspension that is hidden the chassis.

The powerplant is a fuel-injected Eagle Twin Cam 110B counter-balanced and rigid-mounted to the frame. As far as places this bike our touring magazine is that Softail is two bikes in one. no tools needed and in less two minutes, the Convertible goes cruiser to touring bike saddlebags, passenger setup backrest, and a detachable fairing. New year is the audio system for the built into the detachable

It is compact in size and outfitted a set of 3 1/2-inch two-way speakers, a amp, and 8GB iPod Nano etched Bar Shield logo and CVO pouch. The Convertible is a great for the guy looking to load up his gear and out on the highway hitting all the big rallies. he or she unpacks the bags and removes it becomes a good looking cruiser.

On this trip I was not able to get a lot of time on the Convertible but what I did, I found that it was I expected from a Softail. The handles great and felt in the riding position. With a height of 24.5 inches, a rider could easily this bike. As far as power, it has a motor and weighs in at 750 pounds, so you can the great throttle response.

The new colors for 2011 are Scarlet Red and Dark Slate Pearl Metal Grind graphics, Sky and Candy Cobalt with Ice graphics, and Maple Metallic and Gold with Burnished graphics.

We hope to get a little seat time on all of these and with any luck, we will you more in-depth coverage in to come. I’m hoping for the Softail Convertible and the Road Ultra, but Toph surely the Street Glide.
