In 2003 I was looking for a new bike several years away riding (school and work), and previously owned and loved boxer BMWs, was looking for a general-purpose bike with a riding position. I was considering the Bonneville and Thunderbird, Honda Nighthawk, and H-D Sportster.

I looked at the Sportster Sport, but the vibration and other aspects of the design me off. I was close to buying a (a good deal on a leftover Thunderbird in red was very tempting) the 2004 rubber mount was announced, and after seeing a bike at a dealer, I placed an immediately.

I picked it up in February 2004 and pleased with it over the four years. It has good handles and brakes well, and has reliable and low maintenance.

Unlike the previous I have not had backfiring problems the stock carburetor jetting. I the usual muffler replacement, but decided to retain the stock and jetting. I have been with the engine’s power and do not a louder exhaust.

Range the 3.5 gallon tank is limited. only 2.5 gallons before to go to reserve, I refill every 100 If I find a 4.5 gallon tank a Custom in the right color on eBay, I may purchase and install it.

This would require the seat, which I have doing anyway. The seat is OK on rides but is too mushy to be comfortable on over 4 hours.

Maintenance are very low. Change the oil and at regular intervals, check pressures, winterize properly. it.

Belt rather than drive is a great advantage the other bikes that I I had two first year of a new model in the first two years of ownership, but were remedied after the figured them out, and has recurred since.

I have used my Roadster for commuting, weekend rides on roads, and Skyline Drive and it has handled all of these situations I don’t do long-distance tours, but a windshield, hard bags and pegs it would probably those situations fine as Overall, it’s a solid that would be a good for anyone looking for a basic with a standard, upright position, rather than a sportbike, cruiser, or full-dress
