Just bought a 2012 Road Glide Ultra – what should I know?

I’m going to go join that Road Glide group. Makes good sense.

I drove it about 150 miles today just to get use to it. Nothing fancy, just back roads, Foothills Parkway, some of US129 (not the Dragon yet) and then down to Biker Rags to see how well it did on interstate. A couple of thoughts:

Ballbuster 6 likes the seat, but she wants a little more lumbar support. I’m also exploring a heated seat before it gets cold again.

I think the windshield is too tall. I base this on friends telling me you should be able to see over a windshield fairly easy in case of rain. I have to change riding position to see over it, and then it is a stretch. Maybe because I ain’t that tall.

I think it is only off by 1-2 for me.

I think the handlebars will have to be changed. My lower back is feeling a little strain similar to what I felt with the drag bars on my softail. I have recently changed to Apes on my Night Train after swearing I would never get any. But they helped immensely.

I’m only 5’8 and I feel like I’m hunching over just a little to get the handlebars. Maybe if I were not hunching for the handlebars the windshield wouldn’t seem too tall? Something just a little taller and and with a little more pull back would probably do it.

Thanks for the heads up about the recall. I just entered my vehicle into the HS site and it did indeed list a program: Product Notice: 0912: PRD PGM:2012 REGULATORS. So next week I’ll see about getting that done.

Looks like I have until June to make it happen under that notice and have the MoCo pay for it.

I found out what you mean about it tipping. I did that once today trying to make a hard left from a stop. Lost cool point. But got it up and got going again.

I’m amazed at how different this bike feels in so many situations. Tonight on the interstate I was doing 80 with some winds and the temps were right at 50F. It was so smooth and I didn’t need anything more than my light jacket, the newly installed heated grips did help when at the lowest setting.

On my softail I would have been freezing and never would have dared go over 65 with the winds that were blowing. With the cruise I just locked it in and went.

I was surprised how well I could hear the stereo through my 3/4 helmet at 80. No head set.

I do miss that rumble of my Night Train with Cobra pipes. I would like to get some of that back, but my wife doesn’t miss it.
