All the Specs and Impressions of Harley Davidson’s 2009 Electra Glide Classic

As a whole, the 2009 Harley Davidson Electra Glide Classic is as strong a touring motorcycle as riders are likely to want. Excellent fuel economy is coupled with a stable, comfortable ride in such a way that it is little wonder that riders of the Electra Glide Classic seldom step down into a smaller motorcycle after having owned one.

The entire line of Harley Davidson Electra Glide motorcycles received updated frames for the 2009 model year, and the 2009 Harley Davidson Electra Glide Classic is also the recipient of an updated exhaust system and cast-aluminum wheels, as well. The 2009 Electra Glide Classic retains its 96-cubic inch V-twin engine, but sports revised suspension via the fork and shocks, and has a new isolated drive system to reduce vibration throughout the engine’s power band.

Harley Davidson retained the tried-and-true 96 cubic inch air cooled V-twin engine for the 2009 Harley Davidson Electra Glide Classic, as well as the six-speed transmission and chain drive system. With electronic sequential port fuel injection, the 2009 Harley Davidson Electra Glide Classic engine produces 92.6 lb/ft of torque at just 3,500 RPM, all the while delivering an impressive 54 miles per gallon highway fuel economy and 35 miles per gallon city.

Luxury amenities for the 2009 Harley Davidson Electra Glide Classic include all the requisite do-dads you expect on a Harley Davidson touring motorcycle, including a fairing-mounted electronic speedometer with odometer, clock on the Harman/Kardon advanced audio system, a 40-watt dual-speaker AM/FM/WB/CD/MP3 capable system, mileage countdown, and engine diagnostics readout. Standard lux amenities include what might as well be called a La-Z-Boy passenger seat coupled with a driver’s saddle that rises up high enough in back to support the lower back, floorboards, and windscreen.

Like other Harley Davidsons, the 2009 Harley Davidson Electra Glide Classic is available in a range of color options, including solid colors and two-tones. Three new colors are available, Flame Blue Pearl, Red Hot Sunglo, and Two-tone Flame Blue Pearl/ Pewter Pearl. Pricing for the basic model in Vivid Black is $18,999, while a solid color will set you back $19,509, and two-tones $19,919. Special wheels are available at $450, and an ABS option is $795.

Cruise control is available for an additional $270. Compared to the 2009 Harley Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Classic, the Electra Glide Classic is hardly a bare-bones cruiser, but will save you roughly $2K on the purchase price. If you’re looking for a comfortable cruiser that’s light on frills, but long on comfort, than the 2009 Harley Davidson Electra Glide Classic is definitely worth a look.
