Not Too Hot, Not Too Cool, the 2010 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic is Just Right

You could call it light touring- the 2010 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic has all the amenities of a mid-range touring motorcycle such as leather bags, passenger backrest, and windshield, leaving conspicuously absent the radio, fairing, and armchair seating to be found on what would be called dedicated touring motorcycles. The 2010 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic, make no mistake, will rack up some serious mileage before you feel a need to pit in for the night, but it takes those miles in a more leisurely pace- as though this motorcycle were purpose-built for long stretches of mountain highway more so than the interstate highway system.

Seen the movie Cars with your kids yet? The 2010 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic would be the Route 66-riding, Radiator Springs-exploring counter interstate culture ride that would have fit right in. Just picture the driving lights with eyeballs, and you’re all set.

For 2010, the Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic is largely unchanged from last model year, saving for the new Helical-cut fifth gear that purportedly improves the transmission sound. For this year, you’ll find that the 2010 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic is outfitted with a staggered shorty exhaust, full coverage front fender, Lexan windshield, and of course, leather saddlebags.

The motivation behind this ride remains Harley’s potent 96B Twin-Cam engine, displacing 1,584cc and producing 92.195 rated lb/ft of torque at 3,000 RPM. Fed with electronic sequential port fuel injection, the 2010 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic gets a respectable 54 miles per gallon in highway fuel economy, while city fuel usage is rated at 35 miles per gallon. A chain final drive puts the power down, and braking is handled by four-piston front brakes and two-piston rears.

The 2010 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic is available from $16,999, which buys you the basics with Vivid Black paint. Some additional scratch to the tune of $375 will buy you any of four additional colors, including Scarlet Red, Brilliant Silver Pearl, Flame Blue Pearl, or Red Hot Sunglo, and $695 gets you the only non-custom two-tone color, Flame blue Pearl / Brilliant Silver Pearl.

For $865, you can get one of the two available custom colors on your 2010 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic, Two-tone Merlot Sunglo/ Cherry Red Sunglo, or Two-tone White Ice Pearl / Black Ice Pearl. The 2010 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail Classic is the kind of ride that just makes miles tick by, and has likely been attributed more often than not to the phrase time flies. Enjoy it while you can.
