Suffering from dwindling sales, the Honda Valkyrie cruiser was nearing the end of its production run by the 2005 model year. Ironically, the motorcycle was named after a woman in Norse mythology who chooses who lives or dies in a battle. Only one model is available from the 2005 model year.

It is officially known as the 2005 Honda Valkyrie Rune, and it was produced as a limited edition model. Its manufacturer, Japanese automaker Honda, gave it a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $27,699.

The 2005 Honda Valkyrie is powered by a four-stroke, liquid-cooled, horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine, which displaces at 1,832 cubic centimeters. Fuel-injected, the engine has a total of 12 intake valves, with two placed on each cylinder. It has a bore and stroke of 2.92 x 2.8 inches (2.92 x 2.8 millimeters) and a compression ratio of 9.8 to 1. Each 2005 Honda Valkyrie engine is paired with a five-speed manual transmission.

The fuel capacity on each bike is measured at a peak of 6.1 gallons (23.1 liters).

The 2005 Honda Valkyrie uses all-wheel disc brakes. A 13-inch (330-mm) dual disc is placed at the front; while a slightly bigger, 13.2-inch (336-mm) single disc is placed at the back. The suspension on the cruiser is composed of a telescopic fork and a single-sided Pro Link® swing arm with shock absorber for ensuring a smooth and controlled ride.

An 18-inch aluminum wheel goes to the front, while a 17-inch one goes to the back.

For its frame, the 2005 Honda Valkyrie uses aluminum; it makes the bike relatively lightweight while retaining a solid build. Sporting a sleek, streamlined profile, the 2005 Valkyrie is adorned with front and rear fenders and radiation cover. The cruiser comes in one of the three following color schemes: Candy Black Cherry, Double Clear-Coat Black, and Illusion Blue.

A leather seat on top of the 2005 Honda Valkyrie provides the driver with ample room. The digital dashboard on the cruiser houses a trip odometer, speedometer, temperature warning light, and fuel level warning gauge. An engine immobilizer was installed on the bike for preventing or discouraging its theft.

Also included on the 2005 Valkyrie are a pair of rearview mirrors and a halogen headlight with visor for increased visual perception when on the road.

Each 2005 Honda Valkyrie has a wheelbase of 68.9 inches (1,750.1 mm) and a dry weight of 811 lbs. (367.9 kilograms). Also, the seat on the bike is set at a height of 27.2 inches (691 mm).

The 2005 Honda Valkyrie Rune failed to reverse the fortunes of the nameplate. It also didn’t help that so few of them were produced. However, its commercial shortcomings do not subtract from its status as a solid cruiser.

With a lengthy driving range, large and powerful engine, and great braking and handling ability, it’s advisable to check out the 2005 Valkyrie.
