Honda CB Twister Vs. Bajaj 100cc

In the past two years the segment was redefined twice by two Bajaj Discover 100cc and CB Twister . One is from India’s largest two wheeler manufacturer Auto and another is from largest two wheeler manufacturer But what makes these two to differ from each Let’s try to find it out.

Bajaj Auto rediscovered segment by launching Bajaj 100cc  in July 2009. the first 100cc bike is entirely developed by Bajaj and not with the help of Kawasaki. The 100cc bikes such as (Designs form Wind and CT100 (Based on Kawasaki were somewhere uses technology.

The bike is mainly keeping Indian road in mind and it is positioned as a long commuter bike.

Honda CB is the first 100cc segment from Honda Motorcycle and India ltd. The bike is keeping global demand for 100cc bike. The idea building CB Twister is to build a 100cc commuter bike with traditional Honda such as fuel efficient and lasting engine.

Honda has CB Twister as most stylish and commuter 100cc bike.

Bajaj Discover has got DTS-Si 2.0 from Bajaj R D team. stands for Digital Twin with Swirl Induction 2.0 stands for version like iPhone 3,4. This is the engine platform which was on XCD.

The single cylinder, air SOHC, four … has bore x … of 47 x 54.4 mm gives it engine displacement of cc.

The bore/… ratio of 0.86 that this is a long engine which generally maximum torque at lower The same thing has been in its power and torque figure. The power of 7.7 bhp peaks @ 7500 rpm and torque of 7.85 Nm peaks @ rpm. To churn out every of fuel the discover got specially pent roof combustion a molycote piston to reduce and Twin spark plug swirl induction (In this the spark plug positioned in condition than traditional condition) .

Apart from the ignition is controlled digitally than manually which optimum fuel burn at any rpm. It is always difficult to two spark plugs in a small bike like Discover – The sole reason it took 6 to launch 100cc DTS-i after Bajaj introduced spark technology in Pulsar. The comes with optional start (previously as a standard

I personally like the new feature of choke in Discover which is helpful in a cold morning. You need to give choke – it automatically start as the engine up. I personally liked exhaust of Bajaj Discover 100cc.

On the hand Honda CB Twister has got new and powerful engine form The single cylinder, air cooled, four … engine has x … of 50 x 55.6 mm which it engine displacement of 109.1 cc. The … ratio stands at which means this is a long … engine.

this engine specification the is able to produce maximum of 9 bhp @ 8000 rpm and maximum torque of 9 Nm @ rpm.

The reason behind CB more power and torque to Discover is clear advantage of 15 cc. CB figure remind us Bajaj 115 which was 111.2 cc bike 9.5 bhp and 9.12 torque figure. CB comes with vicious air filter which require maintenance due to its self cleaning

This is the feature which Discover lacks. To churn out performance out of this 109 cc engine increases the size of intake which supplies fuel carburetor to combustion head, the valves are operated by high camshaft with twin air the offset crankshaft and rocker with roller which friction and increase performance.

All techniques are being used in displacement bikes to enhance and reduce friction. The exhaust sounds very loud sports bike. One more I would like to add here till now we have seen horizontal engines from in India be it Splendor, CD- Dawn or but this one is vertical engine.

The comes with optional start.

The power to weight for Bajaj Discover stands at bhp / tonne which is very low to 87.96 bhp / tonne for CB Twister. It is that CB Twister is more bike than Bajaj but as far as engine department concerns wise Discover has slight edge on CB Twister engine. compression ratio of 9.8. 01 is than CB Twister’s 9.0. 01 means CB Twister has less with low octane fuel to Discover.

When it comes to both the engines are refined but CB engine made more than Discover at lower At higher speed the reverse is

Throttle Response

In bike segment people don’t care about response as the 100cc bike are not for racing. But we are comparing here which have redefined 100 cc Discover has instant throttle (provided ride control off as it makes you feel some in accelerating bike from zone to performance zone) to TRICS III (III rd generation responsive ignition control

This system ensures ignition spark for given of engine rpm and throttle opening.

CB uses similar kind of but with different name of CDI (Digitally controlled ignition) multi mapping. With ride Discover gives feel of throttle response with pillion ride CB Twister does not have problem due to higher torque.

Discover: 4/5 |  Honda CB Twister:

Discover got 5 speed mesh type gearbox is segment first feature in segment. It has got toe and heel shifter is standard in 100cc segment. The and clutch felt smooth but its little bit hard as the bike I was new.

Discover has short ratio which means it low torque at lower rpm. The comes with Exhaust-TEC to overcome this problem. tech helps the engine to torque in low and mid range.

Result you can Discover at 20 kmph speed in gear without shifting in gear. The torque is well across the gears.

Discover has got all gearshift pattern which I don’t prefer but the segment which Discover operates all down or up pattern. The 5 speed sometimes increases work of shifting in traffic but on highway very useful. There is a noise while shifting

Overall the clutch and gearbox positive but it’s not as smooth as on 135 LS or Unicorn.

CB Twister got 4 speed mesh type gear box as seen in 100cc bike. But it has one down 3 up gearshift pattern and toe shifter something unique in segment. CB Twister has long ratio for better initial power. It has well spread across the gear.

Not much to talk about clutch and gearbox its always leading however the clutch very short and the gearbox not have smooth and slick which we see on Honda Unicorn. You can the click noise while gear which was bit louder Discover’s gearshift noise. the clutch and gearbox could been better according to standard.

Bajaj Discover: 4/5 | CB Twister: 4/5

Bajaj has Single Down tube of frame which is specially for long distance journey. The is single down tube but it between the portion of engine and Discover uses rectangular which offers greater compare to tube type It has longest swingarm in the 100cc

It also has longest wheelbase of mm in the 100cc segment which is useful while cornering. The weighs only 115 kilograms having bulkier features wider tyre, Nitrox etc. It has 162 mm (6.38 inch) of clearance which is enough for of the bumpy riding.

Overall the is well built and serves its

Honda CB Twister has Diamond twin down tube which uses the engine as a member. The frame is rigid and gives advantage of increased to weight ratio. As Discover CB also has box type rectangular but it’s thicker than swingarm and looks attractive

CB Twister chassis offers control and stability. The wheelbase of mm is lower than of Discover but it very much in city conditions. In terms of weight has put CB Twister on strict diet, it only 108 Kg.

It has 180 mm (7.09 inch) clearance which covers any kind of bumpy ride.

Discover: 4/5 | Honda CB Twister: 4/5

and Rim

Bajaj Discover has tyre of 2.75 x 17 at front and 3.00 x 17 at It has Eurogrip tube type which are not much famous for its grip but the quality is constantly Discover has firm road on dry surfaces and in instant braking but in wet conditions the tyre grip was not enough like MRF tyres.

One I would like to add here Bajaj was first to introduced 17 tyre and rim on Discover 125cc in and after that it has became to use 17 inch tyre and rim. The benefit of 17 inch tyre and rim is it down overall centre of compare to 18 inches tyre and The same thing rider can while doing steep at high speed.

Overall the tyres are doing good job but have been better MRF zapper tyres.

CB Twister tyre size of 70/100 x 17 inch x 17) at front and 80/100 x 17 inch x 17) inch tyre at It has MRF Tubeless tyre at front and which is segment first The road grip is excellent and new benchmark for its class.

Although CB has wider tyres compare to they don’t look much wide as Discover look.

Bajaj Discover: | Honda CB Twister: 4.5/5

Bajaj Discover has Telescopic as a front suspension which travel of 130 mm (5.12 inch) is highest for 100cc segment. It has got first Nitrox Suspension at which offers travel of 110 mm (4.33 inch). The suspension of Discover has really improved introduction of Nitrox suspension and you can this while riding on roads and potholes.

Discover comes with friction bush in front to increase the suspension life.

As this CB Twister has Telescopic as a front suspension which travel of 50 mm (2inches) and spring Hydraulic shock absorber at which offers travel of 50 mm (2 same as front suspension The travel rate for CB Twister was not in manual. When asked to the at Honda, he said that 2 inch for front and rear – but I the front suspension travel figure). The rear suspension very stiffer.

Although felt good it is area leaves room for improvement in CB

Bajaj Discover: 4.5/5 | CB Twister: 3.5/5

Discover has 130 mm drum brake at and 110 mm drum brake at rear as per the class. Both the brakes very good while However the rear brake needs to be pressed hardly to get result.

I interacted with so Discover owners about the they said that is good enough but the brake worn out very fast.

As far as class concern Drum are enough but Honda has gone one ahead and equipped CB Twister Disc brake.

CB Twister has 240 mm disc brake at front and 110 mm brake at rear. Also, it with drum brake which has 130 mm drum brake at To be frank I didn’t find CB disc brake that effective as disc brakes are for, in fact drum version worked very

Apart from this you to apply more pressure on lever to get effective braking in brake version. It is the rear which works very on disk brake version.

Style and Build Quality

Discover retains its plane looks as far as styling concern. new in Discover’s styling. It has the same 6 old headlight with twin lamps which still good. The same LED tail which still looks than any other 100cc

The same tank which litter bit sporty and muscular to other 100cc bike. The grab rail and alloy with the same paint

I personally don’t like the quality of Discover. The graphics cool. The basic tank looks outdated on Discover The mirrors look good and adequate visibility. Discover four colour choices blue, black green, magnepa and flame red.

built quality of Discover some room for improvement. looks of Discover still some charm like looks but it’s high for Discover to have some styling.

Honda has made a style icon for 100cc and that is CB Twister. CB Twister is inspired from its eldest Honda CB1000R. The curvy with screenless front and curvy indicators enhance its look. The floating side which is rare in the 100cc gives the bike bigger and look.

The side cowl channels air to engine to enhance cooling. The muscular fuel of CB Twister looks most in the 100cc segment. The V Shaped wheels first in the 100cc

A short muffler looks but I personally like to have muffler on CB Twister.

The tail derives cue from Honda The tail looks short but The half chain case is novelty in 100cc segment. It sporty but increases maintenance of chain lubing and cleaning.

It like CB Twister has followed trend of forward biased Moreover the bike is aerodynamically so that you don’t have force problem riding at speed. The mirrors look but do not provide adequate visibility.

and finish quality is of top class. The plastic grab rail has steel tube inside not look good on CB Twister the plastic quality is not up to the mark. CB offers five colour of metallic yellow, pearl black, pearl siena pearl fiji blue and palm green. The overall quality of CB Twister leaves little room for improvement.

As far as concern CB Twister has truly 100cc segment and no bike in segment can come close to CB It’s FZ of 100 cc segment.

Bajaj 3.5/5 | Honda CB Twister:

Electricals and Instrument Panel

Discover has retained its plane looks of speedometer (we might digital display as upgrade in which was there in Discover It includes speedometer, trip and fuel gauge. On the dashboard you neutral indicator, Low battery side indicator and high indicator. Discover got maintenance battery which is rarity in segment.

For the front headlight Discover got 35/35 watt with separate twin lamps.

You don’t have while riding in dark as the light beam is clear and much of the visibility area. The got LED tail lamp which very good in night side light indicators. has class leading switchgear

It also has pass switch is very useful on highway overtaking in night. Horn good but not as seen on Pulsar. this Discover has DC lighting which ensures your last long.

It also has protector unit which your headlight will not until the engine starts.

Honda CB 100

CB has got entirely fresh speedometer looks trendy. The speedometer fuel gauge and speedometer in one unit rather than two unit seen on Discover. The also incorporates neutral high beam indicator and light indicator which we see on dashboard of other bikes.

The has nothing except Honda

CB Twister also has maintenance battery as seen on Discover. For the light CB Twister got 35/35 halogen light. The tail looks like Hero ambition’s tail lamp.

The side indicators look with front headlight The light beam is clear and apt but in covering area of visibility in the night. The switchgear lacks in and felt rough while CB Twister does not have switch and trip meter as on Discover. Horn sounds than other Honda

Overall it has basic package trendy speedometer.

Bajaj 4.5/5 |  Honda CB Twister:

Ride and Handling

On the ride Bajaj Discover gives you commuter bike ride but it excels in this criterion. The has been redesigned and well to give comfortable ride to on long journey. Discover height kept at lower so a 5ft 6 inch tall (or Short) man can ride the bike. The handlebar has been increased so that the height will not create any for tall rider.

Discover has an upright seating which is standard in 100cc

The traditional tank design of offers good knee while riding. The palm felt soft and much from earlier versions of The foot pegs are positioned both for front and rear. It has good stability both in of straight line and cornering to its longer wheelbase.

It comes “ease of handling” as a standard It has very good ride but if ridden at higher speed for time the fatigue factor showing up due to vibrations at higher Although vibrations are there the remain stable at higher

Overall Discover offers leading ride and handling as far as 100cc commuter segment

I don’t have word to about CB Twister ride as far as segment concern. The ride of CB made me to think the way we look at bikes. It felt like I am a sports bike.

Its true sports bike like 135 LS even if the seating posture upright same as Discover. The is well padded and I felt comfortable while seating as a on CB Twister.

The handlebar position very comfortable. Moreover the design offers class knee recess. The palm felt very soft. the front and rear foot are well positioned.

The bike very stable while at higher speed but Discover better straight line than CB Twister. It is also comfortable for long distance speed cruising as vibrations are compare to Discover at higher Overall CB Twister has truly the ride factor of 100cc

It has the fun factor of riding which of the other 100cc bike

Bajaj Discover: 4/5 |  Honda CB 4.5/5

This is the where 100cc segment is not concern much and the same reflects in the Discover’s performance It takes more than 10 to reach 0-60 mark. I have not tested the top speed of according to most of the leading magazine it’s in the band of KMPH.

Discover’s performance are adequate enough according to its

But it’s Honda CB Twister is clear winner in performance of 100cc bikes. It can do 0-60 in just little bit over 7 three seconds faster Discover. Top speed is another where it has outperformed every bike in 100cc segment it can do over 95 KMPH according to of the leading automobile magazine.

The figures of CB Twister are really considering the class in which it

Bajaj Discover: 4/5 |  Honda CB 5/5

Fuel Efficiency

Mileage is the card of 100cc segment and the which is dominated by Bajaj Discover is able to return Km / liter in city riding something which other can dream off. It is the biggest why Discover is selling like hot Even with worst it can give you mileage of 63 KM/ Liter.

If you in the range of 50-55 KMPH on you can stretch this figure to 85 KM/

For taking correct picture of efficiency you need to ride the around 400- 500 kilometres was not possible in my case so I asked the owners about the fuel and above figures are indications of the Only two persons said me he has reported mileage drop to 65 in city ride condition 10,000 kilometres which I ok kind of thing. With 8 fuel tank Discover can you range of 600 Kilometres so less station visits in a month.

You have ride control which indicates move economy zone to power while accelerating throttle in to get better mileage.

On the other despite giving class performance figure Honda CB does not compromise on Fuel front. The bike reported / liter in city ride and 58 KM / liter as worst fuel figure. I don’t think we can the figure on highway as the bike is to enjoy highway riding but if carefully on highway in the band of KMPH it can return 70 KM / liter

With 8 liter fuel CB Twister can give you 560 Kilometres with single full

Bajaj Discover: 5/5 |  Honda CB 4/5

Bajaj Discover has price of Rs. 40,900 (On road Rs. 46 for Kick start version and Rs. (On road Rs. 49,950) for electric version in Ahmedabad.

From the 1st 2011 the same bikes is to cost Rs.1000 more around Ex-showroom price of for kick start and 45,000 for start version. As against CB Twister has Ex-showroom price of Rs. (on road Rs. 49,690) for Kick Rs. 47,710 (on road Rs.

52,749) for start and Rs. 50,834 (on road Rs. for self start and disk version.

Both Discover and CB justifies the prices as CB Twister is engine compare to Discover cc and it offers stunning style too but CB looks little bit overpriced.

Discover: 4.5/5 |  Honda CB 4/5

At last who is best out of Both bikes have package to offer. One has segment fuel efficiency and features not seen in 100cc class has segment beating style and

One is true 100cc commuter the is true 100cc sports Both are purpose built and aim different market segment. So take it other way if fuel is your priority and want for money package Discover is a you should go for.

If looks and is your priority and don’t to spend some extra bucks for the same. CB Twister is the you should go for. But it is unfair if so long comparison I will not a winner here.

Both have a similar overall but CB Twister is overall winner as it compromises on suspension and fuel front compare to Bajaj
